All eyes of the tennis world are focused on Miami as the second half of the sunshine double continues. It’s been a wild week in the tennis world, but the action on the court has been stellar. Let’s take a look at today’s featured matches to find more winning tennis picks.
Mackenzie Mcdonald vs. Alexander Zverev
Sunday, March 27, 2022 – 09:00 PM EDT at Stadium Court
Mackenzie McDonald scored his best win of the year with an upset over Grigor Dimitrov. McDonald ran roughshod over the former world number 3 and outclassed him in all aspects of the game. Dimitrov had been playing good tennis going into the match, so it was definitely a nice stepping stone for McDonald and showed his continuing development.
McDonald is 9-9 on the year with a hold/break percentage of 102.5%. McDonald will look to build on that success against the world's current world number 4, Alexander Zverev.
Alexander Zverev is a talented player who can't seem to escape controversy. After a domestic violence accusation plagued him at tournaments last year and cast a dark shadow over his success, Zverev had an outburst at the Acapulco event where he angrily slammed the umpire's chair and nearly missed the umpire's foot with his racket.
The ATP put Zverev on a probationary suspension, meaning any additional bad behavior will result in him missing matches. A once likable young up-and-coming star is now a polarizing figure in the tennis community.

Alexander Zverev has not played particularly well this year by his standards. He is 12-6 on the year with a hold/break percentage of 114.7%. He lost his opening match in Indian Wells to American Tommy Paul. He won his first match here in Miami against Borna Coric, a solid Croatian player who is returning from injury.
Zverev made the round of 16 at the Australian Open where he fell to Denis Shapovalov. Zverev is rightfully favored by ATP odds with a superior hold/break percentage of 12.2%.
With Zverev not playing his best tennis currently, this match today represents a great opportunity for Mackenzie McDonald to get another big win. While I am not sure that McDonald is up to that task yet, I do expect him to keep this match close.
McDonald has been serving well and looked strong from the baseline in his first two matches here. Our first bet for today's Miami Open is Alexander Zverev/Mackenzie McDonald 'over' 21.5 games.

Madison Brengle vs. Iga Swiatek
Sunday, March 27, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Stadium Court
Once again, the new world number one Iga Swiatek will be in the featured match of the day for the women at Miami. With Ashleigh Barty’s sudden retirement, Swiatek is the clear best player in the world. Swiatek is by far the number one player on clay, but with her recent success and acclimation to the hard courts, she is now the best on every surface.
We saw that yesterday when she defeated Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 6-0. Swiatek has won both Premier 1000 level events this season, lifting the trophy in Doha and Indian Wells. With the current form she is displaying, it is quite likely that we will see her lift her third Masters 1000 trophy at the end of the week.
Madison Brengle was a slight underdog against Liudmila Samsonova so it was not exceptionally surprising that she was able to get the victory. Her domination, especially in the second set, did stand out, however.

After winning a tough first set 6-4, Madison Brengle “bageled” Samsonova in the second set 6-0 to get off the court with the victory in just 68 minutes. It was arguably the best we have seen Brengle play this season. Madison Brengle is 7-6 on the year with a hold/break percentage of 102.8%. This isn't bad, but compare it to Swiatek’s 126.7% and the numbers stand out. Swiatek has a superior hold/break percentage of 23.9%.
Madison Brengle and Iga Swiatek have played each other twice. The first match was played when Swiatek was only sixteen, and the veteran Brengle defeated Swiatek 6-1, 6-1. This was four years ago in 2018. Swiatek was able to defeat Brengle when they played recently. Swiatek defeated Brengle 6-3, 6-4 last year in Adelaide.
Once again, I will be betting the 'under' in an Iga Swiatek match. Right now she is head and shoulders above every other player on tour. Unfortunately, Madison Brengle is a journeyman who has made a great career playing tennis but she does not have the talent, ability, or execution to play against the world's best player. Our second best bet for today's Miami Open is Madison Brengle/Iga Swiatek 'under' 17.5 games.
WTA Pick: Brengle/Swiatek Under 17.5 Games (-105) with Bovada (visit our Bovada Review)
