Jordan Wright vs. Marc-Andre Barriault

Saturday, April 23, 2022 – 08:05 PM EDT at UFC Apex

UFC Catchweight Preliminary Card Bout

30-year-old Jordan Wright (12-2-0) entered the UFC in 2020 with a lot of hype behind him, and around one stoppage over Ike Villanueva matched the excitement that many had anticipated.

Known as one of the fastest starters in the middleweight division, Wright is renowned for wasting no time, and the victories on his professional record have mostly ended inside the first five minutes.

Canada’s Marc Andre-Barriault (13-5-0) began his UFC with a similar hype, but his fight-ending ability was dramatically stunted since competing at the highest level.

Four of Barriault’s six UFC contests ended by decision. Once a higher level of competition arrived, we witnessed his punching power become nullified, and he’s struggled to have his hand raised via the judge’s scorecards.

Fight Breakdown

Wright is explosive; he begins a fight like there are only five minutes to get the job done. While this has backfired versus certain opponents, I believe he’s on a similar level to Barriault.

The explosiveness he’s best known for could position him back into the win column behind a stoppage victory.

Barriault returns to the octagon two months following a knockout loss to Chidi Njokuani and eight weeks since a brain-damaging blow just doesn’t seem like a wise move when faced with a dangerous finisher such as Wright.

UFC Vegas 52 Odds Analysis

The available betting odds with Bookmakers Review favor Barriault, but I believe the sportsbooks are overlooking the Canadian’s quick return to action following a knockout loss.

If anyone can capitalize on a worrisome chin, it would be Wright, and if anyone can counterstrike their way into a quick knockout, it would be Barriault.

For these reasons, the under 1.5 rounds at plus money is a wagering selection I’m happy to support.

Dean Barry vs. Mike Jackson

Saturday, April 23, 2022 - 08:05 PM EDT at UFC Apex

UFC Welterweight Preliminary Card Bout

Irishman Dean Barry (4-1-0) will be making his UFC debut this Saturday evening, and the former kickboxing turned MMA standout is ready to make an impact.

A 4-1 record isn’t a notable professional MMA career, but his introduction to the welterweight roster will be against the most inexperienced competitor in the promotion.

Mike Jackson (0-1-0) is most known for defeating CM Punk in 2018, but the contest was eventually declared a no-contest, and Jackson returned to his MMA journalistic career.

Surprisingly, Jackson is returning to the octagon, he’s failed to win a professional combat sports fight, and they’re now pitting him against an up-and-coming prospect.

Fight Breakdown

Jackson isn’t an avid MMA competitor; evaluating his skillset is difficult because he isn’t that notable in any single area.

In addition, he’s barely competed at a professional level since his promotional debut versus Mickey Gall in 2016.

Barry was an exceptional kickboxer, and although he isn’t on the level of guys such as Michel Pereira, he can unquestionably present a dangerous striking skillset for a fighter on the level of Jackson.

Speed, power, and diverse strikes should be enough to hand Barry a TKO victory upon his arrival in the UFC.

UFC Vegas 52 Odds Analysis

The available UFC odds with Bookmakers Review favor Barry with a -1500 price tag, it's infrequent to witness such a high-priced line, and there’s a good reason for this.

The moneyline is unplayable but expecting Barry to finish this fight within seven minutes at -120 looks very tempting.

The moneyline odds alone suggest this fight should be a dominant one-sided affair, so they naturally support this fight ending inside the distance as the favorable fighter is primarily a striker.
