In an exciting card at UFC Vegas 49, the main event between Islam Makhachev and Bobby Green was something expected, but still absolutely mind-blowing. There were many great finishes on this card, but Makhachev definitely deserves the recognition this week. So, read below for my recap of Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green.
Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green
UFC Catchweight Main Event Bout
Saturday, February 26, 2022 – 10:00 PM EST at UFC Apex
If you visited Bookmakers Review for the UFC odds prior to fight night, you would have found the fighters priced at Makhachev (-800) and Green (+525).
Now, the odds on Makhachev were absolutely correct because prior to his bout against Green, Islam was riding a 9-fight win streak and was also coming off of three consecutive submission wins.
When trying to write a prediction about this bout, I decided to not put any money on it because first off, I thought Green would have a durable enough chin to not get knocked out. When then made me figure this could either end at the cards or Makhachev wins by submission. Well, he won by T/KO (punches), so I’m glad I did not touch any MMA Props in this one.

The first round began with Makhachev feinting a head kick right off the bat. He utilized his kicks a lot in the beginning, gauging his range while also landing clean low and front kicks. It was until Green threw a body kick when Makhachev found his opportunity to try to bring the fight to the ground. But Green defended, bringing his back against the cage.
Green is moving back against the cage trying to escape but Makhachev was suffocating him from all directions basically. Then finally, Makhachev got low and brought the fight to the ground.
Makhachev was ALL OVER green. Makhachev almost got a kimura but proceeded to mount. Green then gave up his back…he rolled over! It’s game over, Makhachev was making Green eat his punches.
The fight was ended at 3:23 of round 1, declaring Islam Makhachev the winner by T/KO (punches).

The future of Islam Makhachev in the UFC is extremely bright. He has been non-stop impressing all fight fans with his skills. Is there anyone in this division that can defeat Islam Makhachev?
There was only one dog-valued fighter on the card that won: Armen Petrosyan (+130).
Up next in the UFC, we have a spectacular event in UFC 272: Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal on Saturday, March 5th at the T-Mobile Arena.
From top to bottom on this card, it is STACKED. Starting in the early prelims, you’ll see Jessica Eye vs. Manon Fiorot, Brian Kelleher vs. Umar Nurmagomedov, and more. In the prelims, my highlight fight will definitely be Marina Rodriguez vs. Yan Xiaonan.
