Danny “Hot Chocolate” Robert (18-5-0)
Hailing from the capital city of England, Danny Roberts wouldn’t be referred to as a ‘hot prospect’ per se – having spent six years on the UFC roster – but I undoubtedly believe he’s one of the most overlooked and underrated competitors in the welterweight division.
Having boxed from the age of 16, Roberts has long been familiar with competing in combat sports, and he would eventually make his mixed martial arts debut in 2010. And for most of his pro career, Roberts was known as a finisher.

To the surprise of some, it wasn’t just the boxing output where Roberts shined. With an 11-1 record and nine stoppages before joining the UFC, his knockouts are undoubtedly present, but the brabo choke, armbar, and rear-naked choked finishes prove the London boy doesn’t sleep on his grappling ability.
Unlike most British fighters of the older generation, Roberts has consistently evolved within his wrestling offense and defense. And whilst I don’t believe he’s close to the level of most wrestlers with a freestyle background, he’s challenging to hold down and has genuinely been unfortunate with his past UFC losses.

UFC 274: Danny Roberts Fight Analysis
It's no secret that Roberts is primarily a striker, and his last two meetings were shutouts versus Russian opponents – further cementing the evolution of his takedown defense.
The Englishman is a southpaw with lightning-quick hand speed; to meet his hands is a reactive speed that can read takedowns but also quickly return to his feet. With the cardio and technical striking attributes matching Roberts's speed, he's a dangerous outing for anybody competing at 170lbs.

Sleek striking with beautiful head movement and the ability to read striking situations are just a handful of Roberts' fundamental offensive assets. His wrestling is underrated, and nobody expected the Brit to defeat Ramazan Emeev with odds of +250, but his skills were overlooked per usual.
Trinaldo vs. Roberts Betting Pick and Odds
Francisco Trinaldo (27-8-0) is a veteran UFC fighter who notably 4-1 in his previous five fights, aged 42-years old. However, moving up a weight class to meet the defensive grappling skill level of Danny Roberts isn't going to be farewell for the Brazilian.
The top-rated sportsbooks' opening line has placed this fight with pick 'em odds, and I'll gladly side with my fellow Brit to once again prove the doubters wrong.
I genuinely believe Roberts is coming into his own. If we put the skillsets aside, Trinaldo is an aging lightweight moving up a weight class while surrendering a significant size discrepancy to an exceptionally well-rounded competitor. For the reasons above, invest with Danny Roberts to win with your UFC picks.
