We hit a three-leg NHL parlay Tuesday that paid +313. Let’s try for the same on Thursday, our final hockey parlay of the regular season. The NHL odds are from BetOnline, one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks

Calgary Flames vs. Minnesota Wild

Thursday, April 28, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Xcel Energy Center

On Tuesday, I noted that Calgary is my NHL pick to win the Western Conference as long as the Flames stay healthy. For their game in Nashville on Tuesday, I took the Predators on the puck line because, in reality, Calgary had nothing to play for. The Flames have clinched the Pacific Division and there’s nowhere to go seeding-wise. Glad we did take the puck line as Calgary won 5-4 in overtime but was largely outplayed.

This time, we don’t have the puck line option because Minnesota is a slight favorite, but the Wild have all the motivation in the world to play full-bore: Second place in the Central Division and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Wild and Blues are tied with 109 points, but Minnesota would hold the tiebreaker.

“We want home ice,” Wild general manager Bill Guerin said this week. “Anytime you get a chance to earn something or win something or do something that could help us, we’re going to do it. If we just started resting guys and not trying to get home ice, what would our players say, what would our fan base say?”

I also think the Wild will come out with fire because they were incredibly embarrassed as -600 favorites on the NHL futures odds in a 5-3 home loss to Arizona on Tuesday – the Coyotes had lost 10 games in a row and are the second-worst team in the league.

Marc-Andre Fleury was the loser to the Coyotes, so we expect Cam Talbot in net for Minnesota here. Talbot is 12-0-3 in his past 15 starts and hasn’t lost in regulation since March 1. The Wild are 7-0 on the NHL odds in their past seven vs. the Pacific Division.

Florida Panthers vs. Ottawa Senators

Thursday, April 28, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Canadian Tire Centre

I am conflicted on this NHL game in all honesty. At full strength and with full motivation, obviously, the Panthers are the vastly superior team and oddsmakers are pricing them like they will play all their key guys in Ottawa. I’m not so sure, though. Yes, Florida can still win the Presidents’ Trophy, which means home-ice advantage through the Stanley Cup playoffs.

That said, Florida already has home ice through the East, and is it really worth it to risk guys’ healthy just to have a potential home-ice advantage against the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Finals? Plus, the Avalanche already have started resting guys, so Florida probably wins the trophy even if it loses its final two games.

The Panthers are on a rare two-game skid – losing both by multiple goals -- so it appears that maybe they already have shifted to playoff mode.

It is known that backup Spencer Knight will be in the net here, so that tells me the Panthers don’t really care. Knight was torched for five goals in just 33 minutes last time out vs. Tampa Bay. Center Anton Lundell (18 goals, 26 assists) is out. Ottawa is a young team trying to build momentum, is on a four-game winning streak and it’s the team’s home finale.

Los Angeles Kings vs. Vancouver Canucks

Thursday, April 28, 2022 – 10:00 PM EDT at Rogers Arena

Vancouver was part of our three-way parlay Tuesday as we took the Canucks at home vs. the Seattle Kraken and Vancouver won 5-2. Defenseman and Norris Trophy candidate Quinn Hughes had a goal and two assists to set a franchise single-season record for a blueliner with 66 points.

With the team’s top two goaltenders banged up, Spencer Martin stopped 30 of 32 shots. The 26-year-old might be the No. 1 guy next year considering he has a 2-0-2 record this season with a stellar 1.69 GAA and .953 SV.

Even with that win Tuesday, the Canucks were eliminated from the playoffs contention, so one could argue they have little to play for Thursday. However, it is the team’s home finale and fan appreciation night and guys always want to play hard in that scenario.

This is all about fading the Kings, though. They will be playing the second of a back-to-back in their regular-season finale and had to travel from Seattle late Wednesday. Los Angeles is locked into third place in the Pacific Division and will play the Edmonton Oilers in Round 1 of the playoffs (like the Oilers there).

There is absolutely no reason for Kings coach Todd McLellan to play any of his key guys Thursday after most did take the ice Wednesday. Injuries happen much more often in the second of a back-to-back than any other time in the NHL. Expect a junior varsity roster.
