On Tuesday, we recommended a three-team NHL parlay and after a bit of a sweat, it hit. Let’s do it again Thursday with odds from BetOnline, one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks.
Detroit Red Wings vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Thursday, April 14, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at PNC Arena
Would I normally recommend betting an NHL favorite priced -355? Absolutely not because a good goaltender can upset any team. That said, in a parlay, it’s nice to have one almost sure-fire win as an anchor, and that’s why we have this one atop Thursday’s NHL picks.
Carolina is one of the best offensive teams in the league at 3.32 goals per game while also leading in goals against at 2.37 per game. Detroit has some solid young forwards but is putrid in net and last in the league in goals-against allowing 3.82 goals per game.

The Hurricanes have to keep the pedal to the metal as they are battling the Rangers for the Metropolitan Division title. Detroit is long eliminated from playoff contention. These teams have split two meetings with the Wings winning at home, where they are pretty competitive, but they lost 5-3 in Raleigh earlier this season and I’d expect a similar score.
Should be Frederik Andersen in net for Carolina. He’s 35-13-3 with a 2.07 GAA and .926 SV and has allowed exactly two goals in three straight games. If Andersen only allows two here, the Canes are winning because Detroit’s Alex Nedeljkovic is 1-2-2 with 24 goals allowed over his last five starts. He’s 6-12-2 on the road and has dropped his past three away.
The Hurricanes are 41-18 in their past 59 on the NHL picks as favorites. The Wings have won just 18 of their past 90 as road dogs.

St. Louis Blues vs. Buffalo Sabres
Thursday, April 14, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at KeyBank Center
On the surface, this looks like an easy Blues victory. St. Louis has won six straight games and is battling for second place with Minnesota in the Central Division and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Buffalo is long eliminated from playoff contention and has a goals differential of minus-58.
I’m not saying the Blues won’t win, but we like Buffalo on the puck line as the Sabres are a terrific 23-14 against the spread at home this season. They generally either pull an upset – which they did in huge fashion in their last home game on April 5 vs. Carolina – or only lose by a goal. Again, we simply need overtime and we win this bet.
When the teams met in St. Louis on Feb. 25, the Blues won 5-3, but Buffalo was playing horrible then on a six-game losing streak and it was Dustin Tokarski in net. It should be Craig Anderson for this one. He was great Tuesday night in a 5-2 upset at Toronto and is 3-2-0 over his last five starts. It probably will be backup Jordan Binnington’s turn-in net for the Blues to give starter Ville Husso a break. Five of the past six times Binnington has taken the net, the Blues have lost.
St. Louis is 0-4 on the NHL picks in its past four as a road favorite. Buffalo is 4-1 in its past five vs. the Western Conference.
NHL Pick: Sabres +1.5 (-145) at BetOnline
Vegas Golden Knights vs. Calgary Flames
Thursday, April 14, 2022 – 09:00 PM EDT at Scotiabank Saddledome
The Flames were our “anchor” pick at around -350 in Tuesday’s parlay and that was looking bad for a while as Calgary was down 3-1 at home entering the third period against expansion Seattle. However, the Flames scored four times in the third, including twice by Matthew Tkachuk. He finished with a hat trick and is up to a career-high 37 goals.
Entering the third, coach Darryl Sutter juggled his lines and pulled No. 1 goaltender Jacob Markstrom for Dan Vladar and the Flames responded. Johnny Gaudreau finished with two assists to become the seventh player in franchise history to get 100 points and first since Theo Fleury in 1992-93.

I don’t worry too much about that effort because Calgary, which has won five in a row, probably was looking past the Kraken to this game. The Flames are now 15-7-2 against the Pacific Division this year 25-12-4 against the Western Conference. Markstrom should start again, and he’ll be duly motivated after his shaky performance. He is 20-7-7 at home with a 2.12 GAA and has a 1.54 GAA this season in two outings vs. Vegas, including a home shutout.
Vegas, meanwhile, has struggled on the power play this season, ranking 24th at 17.5 percent and 22nd on the penalty kill at 77.4 percent. Calgary ranks Top 8 in the league in both. The Knights have lost five straight as road dogs. The home team is 11-1 in the past 12 meetings.
