With the series tied at two games each and the home team has won each game the New York Rangers have been made the favorite ahead of tonight’s game 5 matchup on home ice.

Will the trend continue or will Tampa Bay take back-to-back wins with a shot to win the Series at the Amelia Arena on Sunday? Let’s check out what way we see this NHL Game 5 going.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers

Thursday, June 09, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Madison Square Garden

Lightning vs. Rangers Series Recap

Tampa Bay Lightning

  • Tampa Bay has started to take the reins in this series with back-to-back wins on home ice.
  • Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed just three goals in 65 shots faced across the two games. He also came away with a post-season high of 0.954 save percent.
  • Vasilevskiy allowed two or fewer goals in 7 of his previous 9 games and all seven of those games in which he allowed less than three goals and saw the total go under.
  • The Lighting have become much more of a defensive unit since the absence of forward Brayden Point. They are relying much more on a defensively solid game rather than a more attacking or middling ground.
  • Without Point Tampa Bay has been scoring just 2.5 goals per game, he is still unavailable for today’s game and unlikely to make the rest of this series.

New York Rangers

  • Igor Shesterkin is the Vezina trophy favorite and has gone one step better than the Lightings goaltender having allowed two or fewer goals in 8 of his previous 11 games.
  • The Rangers' offense as a whole has been pretty poor during these playoffs with only Mika Zibanejad stepping up his game. In contrast, Zibanejad has seen 24 post-season points.
  • Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider have both picked up 16. During the regular season, Panarin had 16 more points than Zibanejad and played 6 games less. New York has scored just five goals in their previous three games.

NHL Game 5 Prediction and Betting Pick

For our NHL picks, in Game 4 we predicted overtime to occur, unfortunately, that didn’t happen with a 4-1 Lighting victory, we did suggest taking the under 5.5 but didn’t want to make it official with the high amount of juice being laid.

We are in a similar boat again here for game five. We simply can’t see this going over 5.5 with two of the best goaltenders in the NHL in the crease.

If you don’t mind laying juice then the under 5.5 is the best play here but again at -140 it’s a lot more juice than we normally like to lay. All said and done it’s hard to call this game going over the total with these goaltenders, undoubtedly two of the best in the world right now.

Let’s take the under 5.5 for -140 and as a side play, we are going to take the overtime again but this time we are getting some even better odds at +330 with BMR's top-rated books and betting sites.

Predicted Score: New York Rangers 2-2 Tampa Bay Lightning

NHL Pick: Under 5.5 (-140) with BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)
