The facts of the case are not in dispute. Sorsby wagered heavily over the past four years as a member of the Indiana, Cincinnati and, since January, Texas Tech programs -- thousands of bets totaling at least $90,000. This is a clear violation of NCAA rules that were repeated to him through repeated educational efforts.

That included bets made through accounts in others' names that he could access and by sending money to friends to wager for him -- details that show he knew his actions were wrong. It even included 40 on IU football games while he was a member of the Hoosiers' program. Two of those bets were negative against Indiana, although Sorsby says he doesn't recall making those.

This is third rail stuff in the world of sports. There is no gray area.

Protecting the integrity of competition is job one for any legitimate sports organization. If the public believes the games are compromised, people stop caring, watching and spending.

Maybe the judge and everyone can agree the school or NCAA didn't help him with mental health like they promised, but can't it also mean that he simply can't play?

Are we dealing with a homer judge like when crab legs and his assaults got buried by the local police?

If they agree he should sit two games, if they agree he should be punished, then the punishment should go all the way.

He should never play again.

My read from this is that, athletes now have the right to gamble on games they are involved in without repercussion.

All they have to do is claim its an illness and that any suspension will adversely impact them.

GOT IT. THAT MAKES SENSE. :banghead:

I was seeing some ADs are saying they aren't going to play Texas Tech this year as a result of this ruling. These are Big 12 schools saying it.

That would be awesome. Would love to see Tech have to play 11 FCS teams, go 11-0, and not be allowed to play in a bowl game.

Not sure it would happen but we'll see.

Sonny Dykes makes a good point here.
