It may not break down entirely but not inverting the spoon is a risky behavior for sure as you would run the risk of brainfreeze

Not to mention, you would create a temporary barrier between the ice cream and your tongue with the spoon.

Also note the gold spoon, insuring there is no metallic aftertaste.
