Why do you supposed the topic faded?
Better equipment? Better NFL benefits for retired players?
The conversation is scarce now, because the NFL is doing everything in their power to scientifically avoid head injuries via equipment, rules, & protocols. This is a very good thing to point out about the topic has faded.

That is just because concussion is more mainstream now. Concussions are now taken very seriously. People did not know the impact of concussions like they do now and the NFL was trying to suppress information. So now it is not such a big deal.

True but either way, the NFL is definitely happy discussions have slowed down

As we all know the NFL is the almighty over everything

Or so they think 😁

It was never about concussions.

It was about blacks. Everything in sports & society at large the last 5 years hasn't been about civility or disenfranchisement, it's been about blacks.

That’s a little insensitive of you to say Minny, although I don’t disagree with you lol 🤣.

Noone wants to say it, but it's honestly true. Remember the Occupy movement was all about black housing, then Antifa/ BLM, then Geo Floyd, then kneeling, then Covid & it's impact in the black demographic, then rent moratorium in urban cities, the reperatiobs talk, de-criminalization, no stop/ frisk, bail less summons, etc.

Think about the push society has made, in just the last 5 years, to be so inclusive to the black culture & community, in light of disporprtionate educational results and a widening gap in employability & earnings potential.

If it wasn't for sports, the community would have 0 voice. The settlement was the conclusion of a racial/ disenfranchisement argument brought by civic leaders & a union lead by a black man, to merely raise awareness. Those retired guys wound up getting nothing basically....a check for $5k for having your head bashed in and still not being able to read.

SCOTUS then let black kids get paid in college....

League took note, changed the rules & emphasized black qb & black coaches for teams....we'll see if they ever win.

Oh absolutely.

Dude it's INSANE here how profoundly stupid the liberals are.

Meanwhile, there's been shootings & 3 murders IN GEORGE FLOYD SQUARE, a 2 block are around the Cup Foos on 38h & Chicago, they marked off as a safe zone lol

But NOBODY discusses it.

The NFL settled with former players so all of their issues are pretty much settled at this point. They just have show some concerns about concussion now.

There was a lot of concern at the time about whether football was even viable as a sport long term when the info got out. That is less of a concern now but still a major issue that football has to deal with long term as more gets learned about concussions and the impact on players.

All of leagues have made major changes to limit concussions.

The NFL is more or less finished as a growth prospect.

There are less than 2 active insurance carriers that contract with them (there were over 20 in 2000).

The league no longer offers workers compensation packages per the CBA.

Once the last 2 carriers drop out, and they will eventually, the league will have to self insure, and at that point the game will become flag football/ arena football.

It'll take merely a handful of individual lawsuits or a States AG (think California or NY) to sue the league and or teams in that State, and wipe out those franchises, thus creating the template for others to follow.

You've seen it w Prohibition, with tobacco, with BAC levels, etc

The litigation and insurance is what eventually kills the party.

Football makes too much money to end it. But concussion research is going to change it completely. In 50 years, I doubt guys will be playing with pads and linemen will be back down to 200 pounds and it will probably be all passing. It will look more like lacrosse.

Yeah, like I said, once the league & teams lose liability coverage, they rules will change DRASTICALLY.

You might see weight limits, no rushing, flags for QBs instead of actually tackling him, no QB runs, etc

No team wants to self insure & no public money is going to build facilities for an uninsured tenant.

IMO talk about concussions was the NFL's way of managing PR.

Concussions don't cause CTE. CTE is caused by the repeated head trauma that nearly every football player endures. By focusing on concussions and a concussion protocol, the NFL successfully distracted their audience from the real issue. People aren't talking about cte & football now because of the false sense that the NFL has fixed the problem.

Concussions are a huge part of it. But I saw where a Ivy League player committed suicide and they examined his brain and it was the equivalent of an 84-year-old man and he had never had a concussions so much more to it. When all this is well known, football is dead as a sport as it is played now.

Also 5-year-old kids get more force to the brain than NFL players because of their weak necks apparently. It is nuts to let kids less than high school age play tackle football.

Female soccer players actually have more concussions than football players actually due to their weak necks.

The world is not ready to face up to this stuff but they will in time.
