uh oh

now what?

Same tarriffs, different mechanism. There's always a way, at least for some of those tariffs.

I think.

As far as what happens with money collected, I get this feeling we'll see potenitally years of court battle.

I think.

This I agree with. I read amicus briefs for the court case and to be honest I do not know why the Supreme Court even heard the case.

Was there ever any doubt that using the IEEPA for blanket tarrifs was illegal?

I'm not being political, but the current admin really doesn't seem to get it when they argue in court. I'm not sure they know the difference between a trade deficit and a tarriff.

In fact, one reason cited for the use of tarrifs was to reduce trade deficits. That makes little to no sense.

Really not sure why the Supreme Court heard the case, maybe for some of the side issues.

The trade deficit is bigger now than EVER

Yeah, but be careful with that figure.

Remember, when everyone thought there would be silly tariffs, companies front loaded and imported a shit ton before tarriffs would take effect.

So it's reasonable to see the importing slow when it did.

That definitely contributed to the rise in the imbalance.

Also, trade deficits aren't inherently bad.

In fact, they can be seen as economic strength as it show consumers are strong, their is foreign investment, and there is even economic growth.

So it can depend on specifics.

This is the part the public facing Administration doesn't understand. When they talk, they don't show an understanding, but behind closed doors, they might.

Not really anything for public consumption from this admin reflects reality.

Sadly, that's just the way it is.
