Yeah Aberdeen and Oweh are both gone. I worry about Pope's recruiting because so far he has no recruits for next season. That could be because several guys are returning with Lowe being one of them. People want Pope gone but honestly I think next year is a do or die for him since I don't see him getting fired despite people not being happy with him right now. I still like Pope but my one concern is that so many guys are choosing to go elsewhere instead of playing for Pope at Kentucky and that's not good. If he can't recruit better than I am going to be in the get a new coach camp but for now I still think Pope should be the coach at UK.
Wow. Just read his buyout is ~$13M this year.
3 years lefton contract.

USA today posted an article about his buyout amount. Seems like the media is feeding into the story to replace him.

Well a lot of negativity from the Kentucky fanbase is probably fueling this sentiment. Personally I think some of it's warranted Kentucky has been mediocre the past two seasons in the SEC. However, I'm not sure who they can get to replace him that would be better. They were turned down by their first two choices during the last coaching search and I'm afraid that might happen again if they get rid of Pope after just two years. That's why I think he deserves another year to right the ship but if they have another mediocre season then it might be time to move on so next year is really a make or break year for Pope if you ask me.

They've already generated a list of replacement canidates on some sites....
Incredible. They guy hasn't been fired yet (if he will be) and sportswriters are already replacing him.
Where are you seeing these candidates to replace Pope? I'm genuinely interested in seeing who they'd get to replace him that's better because last time they whiffed on their first two choices (Hurley and Drew) and honestly I can't see many coaches banging down the door to come to Lexington if Pope is canned after two years so I'm curious who is mentioned as a possible replacement.

I can't remember where I saw it but a Google search gave all the details that were in the article........

The only one not listed below that was in the article was former Nova Coach, Jay Wright.

==========================================

Following a second-round NCAA Tournament exit in the 2025-26 season, speculation has emerged regarding the future of Kentucky head coach Mark Pope. While reports indicate Pope is likely to receive a third season due to a high buyout and an athletic department transition, several, names have been floated as potential replacements should Kentucky decide to move on.

Based on discussions and reporting following the 2026 season, here is a list of potential coaching candidates:

Top Potential Candidates
  • T.J. Otzelberger (Iowa State): Considered a top candidate after his team eliminated Kentucky in the 2026 Tournament. He is lauded for building defensive juggernauts while adding high-powered offense.
  • Scott Drew (Baylor): Although he turned down Kentucky previously, experts suggest he might be more interested if the job opened again, given the changing landscape of NIL and competitiveness at Baylor.
  • Nate Oats (Alabama): A highly regarded candidate due to his consistent success in the SEC and ability to reach the Sweet 16 or beyond. He is viewed as someone who could excel with Kentucky's resources.
  • Mark Byington (Vanderbilt): Recognized for turning Vanderbilt into a threat and breaking an NCAA Tournament drought, making him a "realistic" candidate.

Other Potential or "Dream" Candidates
  • Bruce Pearl (Auburn): Mentioned for his ability to win in the SEC and his high-energy, up-tempo style, which is considered a good fit for the Kentucky fan base.
  • Billy Donovan (Chicago Bulls): Often cited as a "dream scenario" candidate by fans due to his previous success at Florida and NBA experience, though he is considered less likely to leave the NBA.
  • Dusty May (Michigan): Highly regarded for his quick turnaround success at Michigan, though many analysts consider him unlikely to leave for another job so soon.
  • Rick Pitino (St. John's): Listed as a "highly unlikely" but discussed option due to his past success at Kentucky, although his age and baggage make it a long shot.
Obstacles to a Change
While fans may be clamoring for a change, there are significant obstacles to replacing Coach Pope after the 2026 season:
  • Buyout Costs: Pope has a substantial remaining contract, and firing him would require a large payout.
  • Athletic Department Transition: Kentucky is navigating a transition in athletic leadership, with Director Mitch Barnhart retiring in June 2026, which may delay any major, decisions.
  • Injuries: Pope's supporters cite significant injuries as a primary reason for the 2025-26 season's underachievement.

If my dad were still alive I think the only one on the list he would truly be all in for is Rick Pitino. He wanted him back after Boston fired him and he was looking to return to college. He never really liked Tubby even though Tubby won a title with Rick's recruits. As for me I don't really like many of the candidates on that list except for maybe Billy Donovan who has said no to UK several times in the past already. Regardless Pope will probably still be here next season and I hope he turns it around because I like him and think it's too soon to fire him especially since he has yet to coach UK with a fully healthy roster in his two seasons which is unfortunate.

Bump..... Double header tonight.
Liking the dogs to cover in every NIT Game.

Got a little line value (1/2 to 1 point) on the first two and the last one so far. 🤞

1-1 -0.08 units on the Tuesday plays.

Wichita lost by 4 which was the closing line. Glad I got it early and could win by the hook.
St. joe was in it for most of the game and even had a good chance to cover with 3 min left then came the fouling and freethrows to lost by 14.
