Spreadex now seem to be making a much more concerted effort to break into the fixed odds market. I've never used them as spread betting isn't my thing, but they now appear to offering a much wider range of fixed odds markets, especially in horse racing (place only, betting without the favourite, insurance markets etc) where some of the odds don't look at all bad. I was just wondering if anyone had used their fixed odds service and, if so, what your experiences of them are. All comments gratefully received.

Never really used them, although I am aware that their spread betting odds have a slight influence on the market movements on betfair exchange. I would imagine big traders use both platforms.

I guess you got an email offering a £25 matched bet within the last week?

They will be pretty safe - they offer credit accounts so will be severely regulated by gaming commission and financial authorities.

Perhaps offering fixed odds or even moving towards the fixed odds market is better for the new Tax rates they have to pay

Yes, they'll be regulated up to the hilt - UKGC for their fixed odds and the FSA for their spread betting arm. It may well be that the new 'point of consumption' tax is the reason for their increased interest in fixed odds betting, although this could be combined with the fact that spread betting may not be quite so popular as it was a few years ago (they pretty much have the spread betting market to themselves these days).
