This is the shit that is going to pop eventually.
Right now PSA and their stupid registry are driving the numbers - 9 “10s” - 89 “9s” and 300+ “8s”.
Now I get the higher grade bringing more - but realistically a 49 year old card that was produced in high volume - there should be more than 9 “10s” in existence. I’m sure a few are hidden away still/ungraded. But it’s not unreasonable to suggest in the next decade that the number of 10s could increase 100 percent - same with the others.
What happens when 10 more hit the pop report? Prices will drop by more than half.
Personally don’t trust PSA for any vintage grading.
The junk wax 10s are just as stupid - realistically who cares if you have a 10 of a card there are 3 million of ? Never will be rare and paying 1800 for a “perfect” card vs. 20 bucks for one with a slight flaw seen under magnification is crazy. I own exactly 1 post 1980 graded card (a 1990 Leaf Frank Thomas 9 I paid $15 for at auction - just because I wanted one - it could have been un graded and I’d still have paid $15). Otherwise my graded vintage stuff is for authenticity verification when buying online. I don’t chase high grades - mostly 3-5s. I’m happy getting decent looking cards, knowing they are legit and paying prices in line with what they sold for raw in the 90s.
