Jack’s Free Pick Sunday:
Hawks/Heat OVER 219.5

The Atlanta Hawks losing Clint Capela is going to make them a much worse defensive team than they were already, which is saying a lot. Atlanta ranks 26th in defensive efficiency as it is, and the Heat are going to be able to score at will on them.

The Hawks can match them by going small ball and simply trying to outscore them. Atlanta has been dynamite on offense here down the stretch in scoring at least 107 points in 11 consecutive games and 118 or more in eight of those.

The Heat played some of their best basketball of the season down the stretch in going 6-1 SU in their final seven games overall. They were dynamite on offense during that run, averaging 119.7 points per game in their final seven games overall.

These teams have played in three straight high scoring games in their final three meetings this season. They combined for 242, 218 and 222 points in those three meetings. The OVER is 8-1 in Miami’s last nine games as favorites. Bet the OVER in this game Sunday.

Play on:
Blue Jays -1.5

The Oakland Athletics are coming to the end of their season-opening 10-game road trip with a Sunday afternoon meeting in Toronto with the Blue Jays. Cristian Pache's two-run HR in the ninth inning gave the Athletics a 7-5 victory over the Blue Jays on Saturday, after the Jays had won 4-1 on Friday. The A's would love to finish their road trip 6-4 but that would take a win here in the rubber match of this three-game series. The Athletics face a difficult task on Sunday when they send out right-hander Adam Oller (0-0, 33.75 ERA) against Toronto right-hander Alek Manoah (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

Oller made his major-league debut on Tuesday and did not factor in the decision in Oakland's 9-8 loss to Tampa Bay, a contest in which he allowed five runs, five hits and three walks, while lasting only 1.1 innings. As for Manoah, his first start of the season was an impressive one, as he held the host New York Yankees to one hit and four walks while striking out seven in six scoreless innings of a 3-0 Toronto victory. BTW...Toronto was 16-4 in Manoah's 20 starts last season, giving him MLB's 9th-best moneyline mark (+$806).

Many feel as if Toronto is "the team to beat" in the AL East this season and I would agree. However, the Jays are off to a modest 5-4 start in 2022 and following this game, will play their next 16 games against the Red Sox (7), Astros (6) and Yankees (3). Lay the 1 1/2-runs.

Sunday's Free MLB Pick is on the Pittsburgh Pirates as a +103 home dog against the Washington Nationals. Pittsburgh comes in having won 3 of 4 and have scored 6 or more runs in all 3 wins. I just feel the Pirates are way underpriced in this matchup. Nationals aren't any good and will send out Pat Corbin after he gave up 6 runs on 9 hits and 3 walks in just 2 2/3 innings in his last start. Pirate got veteran Jose Quintana on the mound, who was sharp in his first start of 2022, giving up just 1 run in 5 1/3 innings against the Cubs. Bet the Pirates +103!

Dave's Sunday Free Play:

1* on Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 (-125)

The Key: Alek Manoah pitched 6 shutout innings against the Yankees in a 3-0 victory in his first start this season. He's quickly becoming one of the best young starters in baseball. Manoah went 9-2 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 20 starts last year. He ended spring training with a 0.64 ERA and 0.86 WHIP while yielding just one earned run in 14 innings. This guy is just dynamite. Adam Oller was rocked for 5 earned runs, 3 home runs and 8 base runners in 1 1/3 innings against the Rays in his first start this year. The Blue Jays should get him out early and ride Manoah to a blowout win Sunday. Take Toronto on the Run Line.

Sunday MLB Free play. My selection is on Tampa Bay +1.5 runs over Chicago at 2:10 pm et on Sunday.

The Rays have been right there in each of the first two games in this series but haven't been able to get over the hump and now enter Sunday's game riding a four-game losing streak. Like we've done in each of the last two days, we'll once again back them with an insurance run on Sunday. Consider that Tampa Bay has gone 44-23 in day games going back to last season, outscoring opponents by 2.1 runs on average.

It also checks in 26-11 after losing four or five of its last six games over the last 2+ seasons, outscoring the opposition by an average margin of 1.2 runs along the way. Meanwhile, White Sox starter Vince Velasquez has seen his teams go 10-25 after allowing one earned run or less in his previous start over the course of his career, outscored by an average margin of 2.2 runs in that situation. Take Tampa Bay +1.5 runs.
