Reddit Inc. co-founder Alexis Ohanian is leading a $4 million seed-funding round for the sports-betting startup Wagr, an app looking to wed social media with a fast-growing corner of the gambling market.

Founded in April 2020, Wagr has a gambling app that allows fans to bet on sports with friends instead of casinos. The company’s plan is to create a social platform that doesn’t require betting knowledge and expands the market for casual wagers.

Founded in April 2020???

Wonder why they would be lying that much?!

The project started in 2017 I think. Before developers started accusing each other of bad motives and started eating each others children I heard.

It WAS a great idea but sounds like it was corrupted by the greedy insiders. Do not touch with a 20 foot pole.

any sites now social wagering?

No genuine ones that I know of.

They are all like Wagerr, either attached to a propriety currency and/or have investors that require a skim in some way.

It's disappointing but also understandable. I thought a genuine P2P no-vig betting platform would come fast once Blockchain apps started appearing but more than 10 years later still nothing.

I think the reason is that it just takes too many man hours to develop and too much capital equipment to verify transactions and no one feels ultraistic about building a non-profit gambling site with their own funds.

Exchanges in general seem to have been a bit of a fail really. Which still surprises me too.
