CHI. CUBS @ MINNESOTA | 09/01 | 8:10 PM EDT
MINNESOTA -163
ANALYSIS: It may look strange to see Minnesota as a solid favorite considering how poorly the Twins have played this year and that their starting pitcher, Joe Ryan, is making his big-league debut. However, Ryan has a strong record of minor league success and should feel comfortable pitching against a Class AAAA-level Cubs lineup. It is a good sign for Ryan that he is pitching in his debut as a solid favorite; starters who are favorites of at least -140 in their first career start are 98-43.

ATLANTA @ L.A. DODGERS | 09/01 | 10:10 PM EDT
ATLANTA +1.5
ANALYSIS: The Dodgers are ranked 25th in batting average (.235) against left-handed starters this season. Atlanta's Max Fried has pitched great against Los Angeles, going 2-1 with an ERA around 2.00. The Braves have performed better than most teams against Dodgers RHP Max Scherzer, who allowed four earned runs over six innings versus Atlanta earlier this season and six in 5 1/3 frames last year. The Braves' No. 3 and No. 4 batters went a combined 0-for-8 in Tuesday's 3-2 loss. The Dodgers have a ginormous series with San Francisco on deck. Take the Braves +1.5 runs at -130.

ST. LOUIS @ CINCINNATI | 09/01 | 1:10 PM EDT
CINCINNATI -121
ANALYSIS: First of a doubleheader so scheduled for seven innings. The Cardinals are not starting future HOF catcher Yadier Molina, and that matters a bit -- especially potentially if the Reds want to steal bases. This comes down to trusting Cincinnati pitcher Wade Miley (2.40 ERA at home, 1.64 vs. Cardinals) more than St. Louis counterpart Miles Mikolas (only third start of year). Miley's active seven-game winning streak ties his career high. Reds batters scored have at least 10 runs in seven of his starts, tied for the most such product in a season for any Cincinnati pitcher. I'm definitely not saying the Reds will get to 10 runs here, but they should win.

MLB Sharp Action

4:10 p.m. ET: Houston Astros (78-54) at Seattle Mariners (71-62)

These AL West rivals have split the first two games of the series. Houston won the opener 4-3 as -150 road favorites and then the Mariners bounced back with a 4-0 win on Tuesday as + 145 home dogs. In this afternoon's rubber match, Houston gives the ball to veteran righty Jake Odorizzi (6-6, 4.46 ERA) and Seattle starts young righty Logan Gilbert (5-5, 5.44 ERA). This line opened with the Astros listed as a -125 road favorite and the Mariners a + 115 home dog. Sharps like Houston to win and take the series, steaming the Astros up from -125 to -140. The Astros have dominated their division this season, going 37-17 (68.5%) against AL West opponents. Houston is 9-6 against Seattle. Houston will rely on their bats. The Astros are hitting .268, which ranks 1st in MLB. Seattle is hitting .223, which ranks dead last 30th overall. Respected money has also come in on the under, forcing oddsmakers to drop the total from 9 to 8.5.

7:10 PM EST
Rotation #971
Red Sox +105 over Rays
Sale/Rasmussen
The Rays have been on fire and their sense of urgency to win games won’t be as much as teams chasing them. This game comes down to pitching. Chris Sale is an established pitcher who has a rock solid strikeout to walk ratio. Drew Rasmussen is a good young pitcher, but just doesn’t have the big league experience that his opponent has. The Rays don’t hit left handers that well at home and I believe Boston can scratch out a low scoring road win. Take the Red Sox.

HOUSTON @ SEATTLE | 09/01 | 4:10 PM EDT
HOUSTON -125
ANALYSIS: The Astros struggled yesterday but they have their best lineup in today and should bounce back. Logan Gilbert was lit up by the Astros when he faced them and he has allowed at least 5 runs in his last 3 starts. Jake Odorizzi has been solid his past few starts and he pitched well against the Mariners in his last start against them. Take the Astros who are 46-28 against winning teams this season.
