Nike founder Phil Knight and Dodgers co-owner Alan Smolinisky have made a $2 billion-plus written offer to purchase the Portland Trail Blazers, sources tell ESPN. Discussions are ongoing with the Paul Allen trust that's overseeing ownership of team

glen taylor worth 2.4 billion

phil knight worth over 40 billion

isn't Glen selling to Arod?
Yup that's a done deal.

What I meant was Taylor bought the club in the mid 90s and has been sitting on BILLIONS of net worth & hundreds of millions in cash flow, but never took the steps to "buy" a title.

Always a lower seed, always a seller at the deadline, never making moves except 1 year w Cassel, Sprewell, Smith.

Seems like the way Seattle was run, Portland, Chicago, Utah, etc.

Need more guys like Phx, Cle, Bos, etc that try to buy titles when they have a stud that they can surround

but sounds like he was one of the poorest NBA owners
Glen Taylor has $0 debt

His companies are privately owned.

His wealth measured by, say Forbes, is open to debate. He is the wealthiest guy in Minny, probably in the mid west, he is 300-325 wealthiest in USA, but since his companies have no debt, there's no record of what his wealth is other than estimates on Business, farm land, Wolves & media holdings.

Regardless- not many owners have 20+ years as majority nba owner. His wealth from that alone has to be over $800mm.

Yet not one time since 04 has ge spent a dime on a FA

You can't really buy a title in Minnesota. You have to build one and that is pretty much going to be by accident. It is not easy to win in Minnesota. So he played it pretty smart. If he had a reasonable chance, he might have done something. Which is not to say, he did not try that hard. That is pretty much how you have to operate. Most owners are just going to try to make money and will take a loss if they really have a shot.
