Other than Connecticut now, I’m thinking about 20 teams have a shot

Every top team lost today, except UConn, of course
UConn is the only big conf team to "hold serve". You might add St. Mary's as well but other than those two, no #1 Conf Seeds from the major conferences won their tournys.

Only one #2 seed won (Iowa State), with Illinois a #2 seed pending today.

That is amazing.

Where did you see they will be a #2? I am seeing a #4 for them. Even if a win, I don't see them being a #2.

They were #2 in conference. Only one MAJOR team (UCONN) that was first in their conference won their tourny. Some may consider St. Mary's in a MAJOR conference so that would have been the 2nd #1 conf team to win their tourny.

ISU is the only team that was #2 in conference play to win their tourny UNLESS ILLINOIS DOES IT TODAY. Illinois was #2 in Big 10 play.

I'd limit that number down to about 8-10.

Its open - but in the end coaching and talent win out..anyone can win 1 game in which they are overmatched - 2 is tougher - 3 is where you get to the improbable level.

So assume a team is seeded lower than they should be - even as a 5-8 seed - you're not really "over matched" first round obviously and possibly not in the 2nd round. It's not until you get to the round of 16 where a seed lower than 5 losing can be called an "upset" to me.

So as a 5/6 seed - you win your Sweet 16 game - great...you got lucky. Win the Elite 8 and make it to the final 4 - you are tougher than you were supposed to be.

Technically any of the 68 or whatever teams can win it all - probability suggest it will be a current top 25 team.

Until seeding is announced - I would be hesitant to toss any conference. I'll agree Arizona likely bows out by round of 8 - and possibly round of 16. Illinois is still talented - just depends on who they draw - but I would certainly take them to last longer than Purdue here.

I'm thinking chances are we see 2 SEC teams in the final 4 - which speaks to how good conference really is.

Looking at futures

Kansas, Duke Gonzaga, Illinois at +3000 interesting to me

South Carolina and Michigan State might be worth a small play at long odds.

Anything at less than +1500 isn’t worth it this year - too many good teams.

Want a real long shot - take Virginia who is playing in a first four game - if they can impose their style of play - could surprise by getting into sweet 16.
