So got a job offer today - same like of work/same basic job.

5% pay increase and get away from my manager now. Also offers an incredible retirement package - 25 percent of salary contribution to 401k instead of profit share bonus (so no huge tax bill and bypass 401k contribution limits).

The negative - return to office 2 days a week, it’s an hour each way for me. After 90 days can review for 100 percent work from home (which I have now).

They want to fly me down to Georgia for lunch next week - meet CEO and finalize a deal.

I am torn - return to office sucks, but the retirement at this point in my life is a huge selling point. Basically I am saving 25 percent now on my own - so the company contribution means it’s more like a 30 percent raise. Company gets strong reviews and seems to have a very high employee loyalty.

The other positive is being a Georgia based company - if I make the move down there, advancement is possible as I’ll be near home offices. Been wanting to move back South and out of cold weather.

Still - sucks walking away from 3 years at current job. Though this would be it for me till I’m done working. Guess plans change and if I can squeeze out 7-10 years there I’d be sitting pretty financially retirement wise.

I don’t disagree on going back to an office.

I’ve been remote since 2018 full time.

The last 3 have been full time at home and only zoom meetings - before that I was still meeting co workers at least 2x a month - doing lunches and stuff.

Boring as hell at home alone.

I hate driving - but the positives strongly outweigh the negatives.

Working with people with half a damn brain again will be a nice change too.

One of the biggest factors for "enjoying" a job is your boss. You're old enough to know, you don't want to dread going to work. It will be tough to get a good read on your new boss in only a couple of discussions but, to me, that is a HUGE factor in making the decision.

I love the 401K match stuff. That is a massive selling point for this company.

As a side note, I'm sure you've looked at the company financials but, you want to confirm they are on good financial grounds. I'd try to find out when their last layoff was and how was it managed (early retirments/paid packages/cold cuts), just in case we fall off an economic cliff into a recession anytime in the near future.

You're really actually considering returning to an office which is a 2 hour drive each time minimum, for a 5% pay increase?

FUKK THAT BRO.

but it’s only temporary. Eventually, hopefully he can work from home full-time. I’d say this is a good opportunity, especially with the benefits.

Got a weird feeling I’ve got a recruiter trying to play me here.

Got an invite they want to fly me in to meet in person.

I am getting suspicious here - think someone sensed I was on the fence and wanted to lock me in - THEN sell it to their company so they got credit for the close.

Next week will tell the story - waiting for the plane ticket and I’m going to start asking more questions and for firm letter of commitment. Never trust any verbal offers.

^^^ not sure what his end game would be, but if I saw someone asking a forum full of dudes with no success what the correct carreer path is, for days now on end, I would "play you" and win. LMAO
