"This Saturday, Boxing greatness will return to our screens, with none other than Manny Pacquiao competing for WBA welterweight supremacy versus Yordenis Ugas. Read on for our complete breakdown, fight analysis and betting predictions for this week’s main event WBA boxing bout."

"When the news struck that Errol Spence had torn his retina in training camp, the initial thoughts of boxing fans and critics were nothing short of disappointing assumptions. In-step Yordenis Ugas. And sure, we won’t get to witness Errol Spence defend his pair of welterweight titles versus the legendary Pac-Man. However, at least WBA title implications are still intact, and a worthy opponent was available on late notice.

We haven’t witness Pacquiao display his elite boxing skills since the divine clinic he delineated over Keith Thurman in July 2019. With that said, will ring-rust be a concern with one of the sports all-time greats? Does holding championships across eight weight classes should permit more than enough assurance for Pacquiao fans? We’ll soon find out.

Despite Pacquiao’s dominance in the boxing world, we cannot disparage his opponent this weekend. The Cuban fighter has had one loss since 2015 and has yet to be stopped inside the distance. Of course, Ugas doesn’t administer the volume of popularity or hype like Spence would, but this would be a problem for promoters, and boxing purists will enjoy the intriguing matchup either way."
Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2)

As previously highlighted, Manny Pacquiao is no ordinary fighter. Owning championship titles across eight weight divisions is a stroke of excellence we may never witness again. But heading into his mid-40’s, age is not on the side of a man who’s taken a two-year layoff.

Pacquiao is not the same fighter he was when making a full-time move to welterweight in 2009, and when we date back to his knockout loss to Juan Marquez, he’s still not the same fighter. Even with his victories over Bradley and Chris Algieri in 2014, Pacquiao doesn’t possess the same sharpness. However, Pac-Man is still an extraordinary presence in the ring and overcoming his skillset won’t be easily accomplished.

Yordenis Ugas (26-4)

Cuban-born Yordenis Ugas has owned the WBA (Super) welterweight title since January 2021 after Pacquiao was stripped due to inactivity, but in Pacquiao’s words himself, the title wasn’t earned.

“My title was given to Ugas. That is not how you become a champion. You earn it by winning it inside the ring. We will fight for the title. That is the proper way a champion is crowned.” Pacquiao said.

There’s no arguing Pacquiao’s statement, but Ugas was more than deserving of receiving such a reward. If anybody was going to hold the championship until Pacquiao’s return, then why not the man who’s 26-4 as a pro.

Pacquiao vs. Ugas Betting Odds and Best Bets

The top sporstsbooks' current odds are juiced in Pacquiao’s favor, but Ugas is no slouch, and Pac-Man will need to earn that high probability early on.

Neither man will plod around the ring; the use of methodology and defense to perverse the likelihood of violence is not going to be present.

Ugas enjoys working a busy jab, and this approach could be accelerated with the Cuban’s bodily advantages in height and reach. Ugas could certainly disgruntle Pacquiao through this passage.

On the other hand, Pacquiao has composed his punching angles by staying on his toes. The smooth movement puts the Filipino in positions to avoid the oncoming counter-attempts from the opposition – all whilst boasting a slapping gloves motion that signals his appreciation for combat.

Floyd Mayweather defeated Pacquiao using immaculate defense, whilst Juan Marquez’s ability to avoid exchanges in the pocket and countering with power blows ultimately rendered Pacquiao unconscious.

With that said, Ugas doesn’t fight like either of those men.

Ugas is no longer the slugger he used to be and isn’t a spring chicken himself. The theory that a lanky brawler without any significant advantages can take out Pac-Man seems unlikely.
