There are no Black jurors in the Karmelo Anthony murder trial — and for good reason.
Several prospective Black jurors admitted race would influence their verdict. One said they didn’t “feel right putting a brother in jail.” Others hesitated due to his age and race. The judge seated an all-white jury after denying the defense’s challenge.
Race should never decide justice. Facts should.
On April 2, 2025, at a Frisco, Texas track meet, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony (now 19) stabbed unarmed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf in the heart. Anthony was under another school’s tent during a rain delay. After being asked to leave, he warned “Touch me and see what happens,” pulled a knife, and stabbed Metcalf once before fleeing. He later told police, “I did it,” while asking if it was self-defense.
Video evidence shows it was at most a verbal/pushing dispute. Anthony, an A-student athlete with no record, claims self-defense over his size and epilepsy. He faces first-degree murder charges as an adult.
A young man is dead over a tent. The evidence points to murder, not mutual combat. Let the jury decide on facts — not race.
