I'm betting he wants a longer term contract somewhere to allow him to pitch until he's 45. He's mentioned pitching until that age. The team that offers him the longterm deal will likely land him quicker than a 1 or two year higher dollar amount IMO.
I think if they offer 3-4 years at around $40M/yr (Scherzer money - $130M/3 years), he'll stay. They have until 4 ET to make a deal before he's allowed to negotiate everywhere.
