This is true unless it's a club membership store. When signing up for membership you consent to receipt and cart checks.

Regular store you can pass by without showing, by law, but the store can ban you for it.

Also, if they have probable cause, you can't refuse to show the receipt.

I don't even care, I gave up years ago, other then the gas station I get beer from, I always have my receipt ready cuz I knw they are going to ask me for it. Unless I am in business casual which is almost never. It is just easier for everyone. I only felt "profiled" when I was like early 20s.
