By the story so far Tampa and Mike Evans are far Apart. I know teams will snatch him quickly if Tampa wont pay Evans close to whatever he and his agent want in a contract. 😉

Evans deserves to be paid.

Baker - well he had a good year. I mean no one doubted he could start in this league - question is can he star. He had a good year - so have a lot of guys who were given up on elsewhere.

This year he deserves either a solid 1-2 year deal - or if more it will be back end loaded years 3-4. I mean he led a team that surprised - but ultimately they were not even in the conference championship. Needs to repeat what he did to show he deserves the big money.

Yep. I'd slow play it with Baker like you said. Lets really be sure as a TB organization that this wasn't a one off year for him.

But, conversely.... There ain't a whole lot out on the market to pick from so maybe don't let him slip away just in case he is stepping up.

If I’m not mistaken, during his career so far, he has has a different head coach and /or offensive coordinator like every single year

Same thing happening next season as Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales took Carolina’s head coaching job

I don’t see Baker walking from this situation.

He learned quickly how fickle NFL teams can be - and how a bad team can be blamed on the QB - but a good team gets credited to “coaching”.

He really had zero support in Carolina - Browns fans liked him - but they were desperate to win and willing to pay DeShaun for the “upgrade”.

Thing is - not only will there be a new crop of QBs coming out of college - but there will be a new crop of last years failed prospects looking for redemption soon too. Joe Flacco looking for a 1-2 year stint too. He should be smart and try to become the new Kirk Cousins - playing on 1 year deals and cashing in every year.

Mayfield will get the contract, Evans is on borrowed time, if he wants something like a guaranteed 3 year deal he will be disappointed. Under 20 and 1-2 years is the most you can offer a wr that age. The drop-offs come swift and like clock work

Yep so this is his last big contract. Don't see him performing like he did this year ever again after getting this money.

Loyalty is a tough thing in the NFL - as mentioned - Evans has been loyal to the team and taken cuts to help them retain/get talent.

Now he wants paid - 2 schools of thought - he deserves to be “overpaid” based on prior actions and he should be happy to get what he gets as those prior “sacrifices” enabled him to play in meaningful games and not sit home during the playoffs wishing he had a chance.

My thought is pay the man. He helped you - it’s his time. Of course he needs to be prepared for team to experience a drop off and realize his time will come - next major drop off - he’s gone the next year as a cap casualty. Hey - if Jerry Rice, Emmet Smith and many others had to go elsewhere at the end of their careers - he likely will to.
