UNC will get a very good coach if they go outside the "family." Their worst mistake was hiring Davis because he played there. They always seem to do that and it hasn't worked out. The only time it did was when they wrestled ol Roy away from Kansas. They have the money and brand to make a competitive offer and it's still an attractive job so I can see coaches being very interested if they're offered the Carolina job as much as it pains me to say it as a Kentucky fan who knows UNC may very well take someone who could have been at Kentucky if the Pope experiment falls apart and their looking for a new coach next off season.
