How good is this Konnor Griffin SS Pirates prospect?? /Konnor Griffin & the Pittsburgh Pirates

Do they just not have any money? I know they’re a small market but why not at least attempt to lock to their talent long term while they are young?
Interesting idea....Team has money - not big market money, but they make money and then they have been collecting profit share from the league as well.
Part of the issue is the young talent they are drafting knows their market. It’s not a bunch of 15 year old kids in a 3rd world country they are trying to lock up - it’s college juniors and top HS prospects who are willing to bet on themselves and collect the 20-30 million the club that drafts them will pay their first 5 years as a pro.
Club draws well for home games on weekends in summer - its just hard to compete in a division with a couple of deeper pocketed teams - at least Cardinals suck at the moment so it takes them out of the mix - but Cubs can outspend anyone in that division.
MLB needs to flip Cubs and Marlins at minimum for competitive balance.
Yep. Like you said did the same thing when Skenes. I remember when they finally called him up you could get him ROY 8/1 then 6/1 after a month or so worth of starts. Thought at the time they were good odds but I never pulled the triggerSo, the Pirates likely won't have him on opening day roster. Why?
If they leave him in the minors for a few weeks, they get an extra year of "control" over him, unless he gets a new contract in pre-season. They did the same with Skenes and Skenese still own ROY anyway.
Maybe Griffin will too. Lots of hype. Lots of hope.
Seems like they should have just thrown huge money at Skenes for 10-12 years and this kid now like Seattle did with Julio Rodriguez young.Pittsburgh always makes the wrong decisions
Here we go!Konnor called up to the majors

Pirates call up No. 1 prospect Konnor Griffin for home opener
The Pirates are calling up 19-year-old shortstop Konnor Griffin, the No. 1 prospect in baseball, ahead of Friday's home opener against the Orioles.www.espn.com

You have to play the guy, it’s really a great baseball city historically and football of course, let’s bring it back
Question for you Lonnie. How did a kid from NY grow up to be a Steel city fan? And have you ever been there? So true, sir. I’m a longtime Steelers, Pirates and Penguins backer. As a kid I used to tune in to KDKA 1020 on the AM radio dial at night and I’d listen to Pirates games through the static in the late 70s and 80s.
Would love to see a Pirates run and make the playoffs.I’m from NY, but a lifelong Pirates fan. Was great to see Griffin have a successful debut and PNC Park packed. I haven’t seen that kind of juice and excitement in that ballpark for many years. Griffin seems like a great kid and a real gamer. They should be much improved between adding both Griffin and Skenes via the draft within the past few years plus the off-season additions of solid veteran players like Brandon Lowe, Ryan O’Hearn, Marcell Ozuna and Jake Mangum. Then there’s the raw talent of O’Neil Cruz who has occasional trouble with fly balls in CF, but hits some absolute ropes/bombs at the plate. And there’s also the longest-tenured Pirate Brian Reynolds who is a solid MLB player. They finally have a fairly deep lineup. This team has me feeling somewhat optimistic. I’d love to see them playing meaningful baseball in August/September and hopefully October as well. Let’s Go Bucs!
