I'm really surprised Mexico is at the top of this list.

They look very messed up as a team. Sure they beat Panama in for 3rd in Nations League but they were exceptionally bad vs US in the Semifinals.

Maybe because they've been in 2 straight final games, though yes, I would choose the USA on the 1st spot followed by Canada then the 3rd Mexico.

CR is on the 4th but damn! They have a tough loss against Ecuador on Tuesday and good luck to them next week beating Panama.

TBH... I'm seeing US starting to distance themselves more and more from the rest of CONCACAF teams. They really have some up and coming talent on the field. In the Nations League final they had 8 players under 24 on the field.

Mexico is fading somewhat. IMO.
Canada is pretty good with their mercenaries (players of questionable Candadian origins).
Panama and CR are the outlyers. I think they can surprise teams at times but need to improve to win some cups in CONCACAF.

Thank you for the great analysis, Tank.

My main question rn is... Why is Qatar been included in Golden Cup?

It should come down to USA and Canada...Mexico isn't a convincing favorite
Agreed

Canada @ 6/1 would be worth a stab at the price , but USA have the best squad on paper. Our country is no different then any other country that follows the FIFA regulatory rules. For many years we lost home grown players to countries with a deeper soccer history ( England , Germany , France etc ) merely because they had a parent born to that citizenship. This program , with a very limited budget , unlike the US , has been built with a long term commitment to youth programs. We are finally reaping the benefits of having a core of talented youth that are familiar with one another. It took 36 years to get back to the World Cup , and we earned every ounce of sweat along the way.

GO CANADA

Historically, CONCACAF invited teams to improve the competition. In the past it invited pretty good teams from across the world to play in this tourny.
1996 Brazil
1998 Brazil
2000 Colombia, Peru, South Korea
2002 Ecuador, South Korea
2003 Brazil, Colombia
2005 South Africa, Colombia

It stopped in 2005 when CONCACAF started to get decent. Qatar is the first invite since 2005. They played in the 2021 tourny in addition to this year. I think they did it for two reasons. Qatar needs to compete against better competition and was willing to pay for it (indirectly). Qatar Airways is a major Gold Cup sponser.

Finally, I think various leagues do this across the world. I know Mexico has gone to the African tournaments as an invitee and I think the US went to South America years ago.

Makes sense. I'm just not prepared to see them back again so fast after World Cup.

Middle East Countries joining, and if not taking all sports slowly. Can you imagine Saudi Arabia being invited in the future? Anyway, looks like I'm just exaggerating it rn..
