I still like Iowa in this game even without Cooper Dejean.

How many times have you seen a team pull together after losing a key player? Happens a lot and they are at home, great atmosphere.
100% agree..............but they no shot at beating Michigan now.

The game has moved from -3.5 to -2.5 on a game with a total of 30, which is significant ...... personally thought it would go down to -2

But this week’s season-ending lower-leg injury to star Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean – which occurred in practice when, according to head coach Kirk Ferentz, DeJean planted and twisted in a bad way – seems especially cruel.

The timing of DeJean’s injury stirs memories of the one that claimed Ronnie Lester's knee during the opening stages of Iowa basketball’s 1980 trip to the Final Four against eventual national champion Louisville. Lester was by far the team’s most important player, and the Hawkeyes effectively lost their chance at glory.

In a sport like football, played by 11 on a side, there are more men to soften an injury blow. But to lose a player like DeJean, who does so much in nearly every phase including as one of the elite punt returners and kick-coverage gunners that this program has ever seen, hits the Hawkeyes mid-week like a ton of bricks.

“I was thinking about this last week, I’m not sure he’s not one, or the best players I’ve been around at any level,” Ferentz said Wednesday night and, yes, he coached for six years in the NFL. “You think about how well he does so many things and how smoothly he does them – he doesn’t really draw a lot of attention to himself as an individual, except with his play. It’s just stellar. Sometimes you just catch yourself and say, ‘Did he just do that?’ It’s amazing.”

Iowa has now lost its starting quarterback (Cade McNamara), two NFL-caliber tight ends (Luke Lachey, Erick All) and a projected first-round NFL Draft pick (DeJean) to season-ending leg injuries. That list doesn’t include the loss of the entire season for defensive tackle Noah Shannon due to the state’s sports-gambling investigation.

The question now becomes: Can Iowa possibly rally past this latest setback and continue to find ways to win?

Tangibly, redshirt freshman Deshaun Lee takes over at cornerback; walk-on Kaden Wetjen takes over on punt returns.

Intangibly, the Kinnick Stadium crowd, which has been instrumental all year, can serve as a “12th man” of sorts. There is also often a natural elevation of play that can materialize when a team loses a star player. And Iowa still has Phil Parker leading its defense.
