Do you collect sports cards?

My cousin only collects stuff from the early 1900's. Hopefully one day soon Ican get by his place and take some pictures.

I only collect prewar. 1888-1933 is my range. Occasionally something in the late 30s or 40s but rare. I am a “type” collector.

Not if you have PSA 10 or SGC 90-95 in a lot of the 60s, I am only into E and type cards, 1886-1930s. But if you have high grade in the 60s big $

if they are stars worth something just not desirable and for a low end collector. I suggest send the stars to PSA, then get rid of them. You should go to the National next week if you are in Chicago. Offload what you have there, will be easy.

Very familiar - it’s about 30 minutes from me - Cleveland/Akron burb.

Smallish town - but very busy little shop that does a pretty brisk business both in store and online. Glad to see an in person customer hit it. But the amount of these new chase cards - I have no interest and feels again like people gambling buying packs.

Sure feels like it.

Again - 30 odd years ago I had good friends who worked in the tobacco industry. There absolutely were promotions targeted at “young adults” to get them smoking - knowing the high percentage of brand loyalty. By the time I got into the industry - it was going away - but they were trying to find “alternative products” to hook target customers - things like Snuss.

25 or so years ago when I saw opportunities that might arise with the opening of regional casinos and started going to community college for it - I studied the rise of the “themed” slots with their addictive little bonus games. People would dump fortunes in those penny slots for a chance to win a bonus game and maybe win $8-20. It was just absolute entertainment to them - like playing a video game - only difference you didn’t just put $50 in and own the game…the machine kept taking your deposits teasing you and the casinos downplaying it as “harmless entertainment” no different than going to a movie for a couple of hours.

Now we have Fanatics as both a major player in sports cards and a decent sized betting app. Don’t tell me they aren’t mining that mountain of data they obtain on one side of the business and using it to sharpen up offerings on the other.
