OD Suspected, Cops Say

The Colts released a statement on Jim Irsay's health ... saying he is still recovering from his "respiratory illness."
"We will have no further comment on his personal health, and we continue to ask that Jim and his family's privacy be respected."

Jim Irsay was found laying in his bed unresponsive, cold to the touch and gasping for air during a suspected overdose in December ... this according to police in Indiana.

Carmel Police Department documents, obtained by TMZ Sports, show cops were dispatched to Irsay's Carmel residence on Dec. 8 at around 4:30 AM ... after someone said they had found the Indianapolis Colts owner unconscious on a bathroom floor with a blue skin tone.

When police first arrived on the scene, they say Irsay had been moved to his bed ... where he was struggling to breathe and had a weak pulse and constricted pupils.

Police say in the docs an attempt to wake him with a sternum rub was unsuccessful. They added, though, that after administering one dosage of Narcan -- a drug commonly used to revive people in opiate overdose situations -- "he responded slightly."

Cops say they were prepared to attach an AED to Irsay -- but paramedics arrived and "took over lifesaving efforts." Irsay was eventually transported to a nearby hospital via an ambulance.

Yea - Carmel is basically “the” suburb to live in around Indy - high end area with the city “elite” along with all the better retail.

I read this and I still think TMZ is just pushing a rumor about the OD.

Let’s start with the fact no drugs or evidence of drugs were found. Now that could be explained by the fact someone other than Jim called 911 here it appears - an assistant was smart enough to clean up before calling 911 - but even then - it’s clearly going to be a rush job and things can be missed.

Narcan was administered and elicited a slight response. Narcan can be used to ease issues causing breathing difficulty - caused by narcotics. Given his history - if using any meds - they were likely closely monitored by a physician - but still could have been given something that was causing respiratory depression. The first response of any LE officer when they see someone blue and not breathing will be Narcan - you could be laying on the floor with a freaking gun shot wound and a pistol lying next to you - your probably getting Narcan. The fact it had very little effect suggest it was not an OD.

And as mentioned Carmel is a fairly affluent suburb with resources. If there was any indication of drugs - they would have been all over this already. They have nothing to gain covering up a crime. They simply are too well funded to risk scandals. They cover it up - it comes out - suddenly some people making a lot of money as heads of a well funded department are under the microscope. This ain’t a 3 man department in the sticks - it’s a large force and too hard to hide things - especially with a known recovering user. If it were drugs - it’s likely he screws up again and then the scrutiny into this incident would come right back on this response.

His collection of guitars alone is amazing - Christ what significant guitar DOESN’T he own now ? Should just set up a win in the RnR HOF with his stuff. Kurt’s JagStang, Gilmore’s Blackie, Jerry Garcias Tiger - he’s playing Pokeman with pieces of RnR history - got to have them all. Had Ringo’s bass drum from The Beatles first concert in Shea Stadium as well I believe. Would like to go and see it when the display comes around. He’s an aficionado I know and a decent player from what I hear amongst people who have met and worked with him on his collection.

Police got a call that someone was unresponsive on the bathroom floor.

TMZ just put out the story yesterday morning. ESPN picked it up.

Why did it take a month to come out - who knows. Someone tipped TMZ who “investigated” and reported what they found.

Not really much to the story - police called/resonded - turned out the person was Jim Isray. No info as to why they moved an unconscious person who was cold to the touch from bathroom floor to the bed (or how - ever try to pick up a lifeless body and move it even 20 feet alone - it ain’t easy / even with 2 people it’s a challenge). Guessing there is less to this than they make it sound like.

A whole lot less salacious if an assistant comes to his house - finds him in bed and sick and calls police. You say he was passed out on the floor and pills everywhere - that’s a sellable story. Of course TMZ is smart enough not to mention unverifiable parts about drugs / only what’s put in the police report which is public record. If someone says it happened in the police narrative - they aren’t liable for mid-information if it turns out to be untrue. Just reporting facts on record.

We can only hope he's okay now. Just sad to see media will do anything to have news.

My cousin used to do construction work at his place, he has a tunnel that he uses to get around his property. Said he drives a golf cart

I'm not sure if Narcan can be used for other medical issues but I know its used for opiate overdoses. He responded to the drug and slightly revived. His history and that response seems to indicate it was drug related. I'm betting he's in private rehab soon.

Not sure who has given NFL bigger black eye... Irsay, Kraft, or Snyder.

It has no medical use outside of reversal of opiates.

It’s pretty standard for first responders now - even when unknown about opiate use. I mean it’s kinda like performing CPR / AED - you don’t know WHAT caused the person to drop/heart to stop just walking in - but it’s not like administering these are gonna HURT the situation in any way - dead has a way of becoming permanent quickly so you go with what tools you have and hope it works.

I’m not 100% sold on it being drugs - but yes - it begs the question of was he in the bed and found blue/lacking oxygen or was he on the bathroom floor passed out? One suggest illness/the other possible drugs. Like I said - ever try to drag even a lightweight body by yourself - it ain’t easy.

Snyder by far the biggest black eye to me. Just because he was on notice time and time again and continued. Kraft is an egomaniac - but so is Jerry Jones, so was Al Davis - a lot of them in history. Snyder made ZERO contributions though to the team/game - just overspent and killed a proud legacy AND botched a name change.

If I was a full Native American and concerned with my image as a race - I’d want any connection with that clown erased too.
