So the big moves by the phillies in off-season have been:

Key 2025-2026 Offseason Acquisitions & Trades
  • Adolis García (OF): Signed as a key outfielder for 2026.
  • Brad Keller (RHP): Signed a two-year, $22 million contract to bolster the bullpen.
  • Kyle Backhus (LHP): Acquired from the Diamondbacks for OF prospect Avery Owusu-Asiedu.
  • Jonathan Bowlan (RHP): Acquired from the Royals in the Matt Strahm trade.
  • Chase Shugart (RHP): Acquired from the Pirates for Minor League INF Francisco Loreto.
  • Tim Mayza (LHP): Signed to a minor league contract.
  • Zach Pop (RHP): Signed to a one-year contract.

Key Departures
  • Matt Strahm (LHP): Traded to the Kansas City Royals.
  • Nick Castellanos (OF): Released by the team.
  • Avery Owusu-Asiedu (OF): Traded to the Diamondbacks.
  • Francisco Loreto (INF): Traded to the Pirates.
I'm not sure they made any big moves to get better other than Garcia and Castellanos.
This might be a solid play JJ.

I expect the Phillies to be better through addition by subtraction. What do I mean by that?

They had a cancer named Nick Castellanos on the team. He's gone now. No more cancer.

Addition by subtraction.

Their starting pitching is great when healthy. We're talking Wheeler, Nola, Luzardo, Christopher Sanchez, and the rookie phenom Andrew Painter.

To the bullpen this off-season they added Brad Keller and Jonathan Bowlan to an already very solid bullpen which features elite closer Jhoan Duran.

But the thing that may be their most important off-season acquisition might not be a player but a coach they hired.

Don Mattingly.

He has already reported to have worked with Bryce Harper and Harper gave a glowing review of him.

I do not think this will be a down season and will be very surprised if it is.

That said, I don't expect them to win the World Series.

It’s baseball - books love people posting up money on futures.

ANYTHING can happen.

Would I expect them to win 90+ next year in the NL East - no. Mets won’t be as bad and the other 3 should produce at least 1 team above .500.

But if you would have said the Braves would be a sub .500 team last season and worse than the Marlins - people would have laughed too.

Putting up serious money and waiting March to October to collect is rough. I’d rather focus on day to day handicapping and build my money vs waiting and hoping.

phillies did division by multiplication this off season actually to The 4th power and then logrithmed their bullpen

my algo has them at 78 wins, after selling at trade deadline.
