Betmgm paid him out after all the bad publicity. I’m not a fan of sportsbook . But When I saw the actual parlays he placed. A lot of ppl probably don’t pay attention to Women’s World Cup but Vietnam is like shit team it’s as if Alabama was playing Sam Houston st. and betmgm had Alabama as +6600 underdog. But I guess I’m just jealous that I didn’t do it . 😂

I had a feeling this might happen. Paying a couple hundred grand is a drop in tie bucket. Basically good PR/advertising.

Happened with US another book early on in the US markets with insane odds on a three-point game going to OT with like two minutes left. I think it was a Denver game. They paid too.

Can you imagine offshore doing this?

I’m sure in the BetMGM case and the other one I talked about the bad lines were up a very short time. Guy just got very lucky to catch it.

Would the bad odds have been realized at MGM Vegas? Atleast the ticket writter might have seen the error. Online, the legal books are on the hook for odds displayed and bets accepted. Otherwise every win would claimed as wrong odds by the book.

Ya the sportsbook made a major mistake but the bettor knew what he was doing . Why would you make same bet 3 times , he probably would of done more if it let him 😂
He bet it for 3k. Probably all he had in his account.

Or he did the max bet of 1k three times as quick as he could before the odds were finally pulled

I thought he played with clearly bad lines on the board. Sure its the books fault but I'm 100% confident in the T&Cs it says, bad lines void the play.

People mentioned he knew the lines were bad when he compared them to other books. He was attempting to capitalize on the books mistake.

Glad he got paid, but would be surprised if people got paid off for this in the future.
Like @BigJay mentions, the $200K is nothing to save face on the bad press.

As soon as the TV station came with the angle “local book stiffs teacher out of $214k” I knew there was a decent chance he was getting paid bad line or not.

Was curious what the specific terms say at MGM so went and looked. I would think this would cover it pretty broadly:

Why your bet may have been cancelled

In most cases a bet would be cancelled because it was offered with incorrect information or because a pre-match bet was accepted after the event had started.

Bets are also voided when an athlete or team did not compete or because the event was abandoned or has not begun at all.

---

HOWEVER, I wonder if the fact that it was never cancelled means by their own terms language didn't cover them in this case?

The US Books are updating their terms like weekly it seems like. Constantly having to agree to new terms when signing in. Until a few weeks ago, FanDuel was shading against its own price. Like a -113 to win $100 would often actually cost like $112.46 or whatever. Then they updated their terms and now it's a true $113 to win $100 in that scenario.

Literally making it up as the go in some respects
