Just like they used to do in Vegas with golf with Tiger Woods when he was unbeatable - some books offered an ‘Anybody But Tiger’ wager for plus a small amount, like +110. Maybe we’ll get an ‘Anybody But The Dodgers’ WS offering…..

I agree. This stuff is crazy. Dodgers are stretching the limits of a payroll with all the big-deferred money they are throwing around.

Agree. Its within the CURRENT limits of baseball rules. But, I see it being changed.

The other 20+ teams that are doing nothing can't afford to do what the Dodgers are doing so it moves the scales to the point of not being an even remotely level playing field (not that it was level before, its just really tilted now).

I'd bite. The Yankees and their power teams they built seemed to underperform expectations often in the last decade or so.

Yeah, don't hate the player, hate the game. The league is allowing this. The Dodgers are playing within those rules that are allowed by the league.

They made some sharp moves - spent $$ and gained alot of traction with Japanese/Korean players wanting to play for them.

Baseball needs a hard cap on salaries - but it will never happen. As condition of a cap - there will also be a “minimum” imposed and at least 6 teams don’t want that. Factor in big market teams who don’t want spending restricted- no way owners agree.

MLB Players Union knows they are in a tough spot - dying sport, divide of have and have nots between teams and 2nd most players represented after NFL union. Don’t want player salaries (and dues) capped - but at a point it’s going to impact the competitiveness of the game. More playoff teams help increase balance a little - but in the end stacked teams win.

Amazing when you look at the great hitters of the game historically vs. the “best” we have today and compare the strikeouts.

Even the “worst” of the power hitters from a few decades ago would be no worse than middle of the pack in strikeouts in today’s game.

Striking out 100 times a year used to be a major embarrassment as a player - today it’s actually low. If a power pitcher manages to last 18-20 years - we could see Ryan’s strikeout number be challenged - which considering how untouchable it felt not long ago is surprising. Not that any of these guys will want to pitch and retain the ability after 20 years.

St. Louis Cardinals, better franchise, the Dodgers can't compare with the Cardinals as far as legacy.
