Not âruiningâ the game any more than Yankees/Mets/Cubs have in their spending sprees.
They made some sharp moves - spent $$ and gained alot of traction with Japanese/Korean players wanting to play for them.
Baseball needs a hard cap on salaries - but it will never happen. As condition of a cap - there will also be a âminimumâ imposed and at least 6 teams donât want that. Factor in big market teams who donât want spending restricted- no way owners agree.
MLB Players Union knows they are in a tough spot - dying sport, divide of have and have nots between teams and 2nd most players represented after NFL union. Donât want player salaries (and dues) capped - but at a point itâs going to impact the competitiveness of the game. More playoff teams help increase balance a little - but in the end stacked teams win.
