I'll put context on what JJ might be saying:

*If you're in demand, you're going to command a good Hourly rate for your services.

If that's the case, it's a catch-22. If the compensation is too good to turn down, one might consider working to a more advanced age.

Even if you don't NEED the money. It's nice to have options.
Chucky, so what you are saying is that if JJGold was to hit the lotto, he would still continue working the glory hole because his services will still be in demand?

Like a catch-22 all up in his mouth?

Also remember you can take your Social security at 62 but you don’t get Medicare health insurance until 65 .
I'm assuming you are American Leisure ?

At the age of 60 ( your b'day ) you can opt for a bridged Gov't pension monthly payment in Canada. It is a secondary or supplemental pension to any work related pension already in place.

Franz, nothing changes for medical care in Canada when you retire right? Its all still 100% covered by gov't (taxes) even though you aren't working?

We live in Ontario where we are covered by O.H.I.P. until the day you cease to exist. If I travel abroad , my employee medical coverage is valid in most parts of the world. Something you have to look into before travelling to insure coverage

We met a couple of lady's ( 2 sisters ) from Austin , Texas. My wife got into a conversation with them regarding the " Canadian Snow Birds " who migrate each year to Florida. It has decreased considerably recently due to the large cost of insurance while residing in the States. They claimed that it can be up to an additional $ 300 / mth for retirees over 65.
