Shame the FO did not just grant her a medical exemption, if she asked for one. Instead of letting this circus happen.

Her first press conference on return is going to be a packed house

and now, Ashleigh Barty is also out due to a hip injury.

"The 2019 champion had strapping on her left thigh and said she felt it was "unsafe" to continue when she stopped the match at 6-1 2-2 down.

After Karolina Pliskova's straight-set defeat by Sloane Stephens, there are five top 10 seeds left in the draw.

Barty revealed that a left hip problem had flared up at the weekend.

"I just tried to give myself a chance and see how it felt," she said. "It got worse today and it was becoming at the stage where it was unsafe. As hard as it is, it had to be done."

Barty had managed to come through the first round on Tuesday despite needing lengthy treatment on her left hip during the match."

5 of the top 10 women out already.

Not sure why womens tennis is paid equal to mens.

Seeds near meaningless.

6-0 0-6 6-0 scores normal.

Speaking to press too stressful.

Only 3 sets.

Equal opportunities for women is a good thing.

But women tennis players being paid the same as men must have set other female sports back a decade on equal pay rights. As it is so obviously not justified or fair in tennis.

Womens tennis is not even 50% as professional as the men.
