My understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong) is that the UK does not tax proceeds from betting, period.

I have also heard that Australia might be in this boat.

Which nations allow the professional sports bettor to pay zero income tax on winnings?

On the other hand, nations like Canada and Ireland seem to be in a grey area in which the bettor could get hit with income tax if the relevant tax authority determines him to be a professional.

On the opposite extreme is the US, of course. US citizen bettors can't even escape their tax requirement by leaving the country.

You’re right about the UK - betting winnings there aren’t taxed because the bookmakers themselves pay a gambling duty instead. Australia is similar; players don’t pay tax on winnings since it’s considered a form of entertainment, not income. Germany and Italy, though, do take a percentage depending on the operator. Canada’s situation is indeed a grey area - casual bettors are fine, but if you’re seen as a pro making a living from it, you could face income tax.

Hookers at bars and massage places also illegal to sell sex but they don’t really enforce it there.

Some countries where sports‑betting winnings are generally not taxed for recreational bettors include:

  • United Kingdom — players don’t pay tax on gambling wins. MR. BET+2electronmagazine.com+2
  • Australia — winnings treated as hobby gains, not taxable income. Wikipedia + 1
  • Finland — winnings from licensed operators are tax‑free. counteract.co+1

Always check local laws though, since rules vary by region and whether you’re considered a “professional” bettor.
