Niners players: We didn't know overtime rules
Multiple 49ers players said they were not aware of the NFL's postseason overtime rules.

It's what separates the big boys to the little guys. 49er coach completely outclassed, had no business even being in the Superbowl. A coach like Ron Zook would of never let that happen. Ron Zook would of won the SuperBowl if he was the coach.Difficult to fathom a coach not preparing his team for the potential of overtime in the Super Bowl and how they might deal with certain OT scenarios.
I guess that’s one of the reasons why Shanahan has come up short in close Super Bowl games multiple times now.
Guy spends so much time worrying about analytics and doesn’t focus on something like preparing his team for what might happen in postseason overtime.
Doesn’t matter. Game was planned and scripted for Chiefs.
He should step down and take a job in the MAC.This is the same Kyle Shanahan that, as Falcons Offensive Coordinator, could have run the ball up the middle on third down with two minutes to go up 8 against the Patriots in 2016 and kicked the game-clinching fg.
Instead he calls a drop-back pass, Matt Ryan gets sacked out of field goal range, and the Falcons lose to Brady and the Pats in OT.
Nothing we haven’t seen before.
I don't know what's more sadder in this scenario for the 49ers, is it that the players didn't know about the rule change or that the coaches didn't explain their strategy?
Not really the point though, is it?Doesn’t matter. It wouldn’t have changed anything since they didn’t score a td first in OT.
Whats more concerning to me is the ref explained the OT rules. So how could they be confused? I wasn’t even on the field and I knew the rules. Not really the point though, is it?
One team was totally prepared and had a winning mindset. One team was confused as to what the rules even were. Falls on coaching staff.
