Fair enough. My guess is that they'll cough up at the end of all this, but if they don't, then you really might have to look into taking them to court.

I've always argued that online bookmakers should do these ID checks before they allow a player to deposit or place any bets - in most cases the checks can be done in no more than a few minutes by using a third-party database such as the electoral register. Unfortunately most players want to place bets as soon as they open an account and, unless the UKGC makes it a requirement, no bookmaker is going to prevent a new customer from doing so while the bookmaker carries out ID checks.

Agreed,Trevrizent, although problems still seem to crop up judging by these coloumns when bookmakers occasionally do a sort of double-take - they do initial checks and say that accounts are verified, and then do other checks and demand more paperwork.

Yes, there's no doubt that some bookmakers (by no means all) exploit KYC requirements to delay or even avoid paying players their legitimate winnings. I still think 188Bet will probably pay up in this case eventually, but this kind of behaviour hardly shows them in a good light and it's the sort of thing the UKGC ought to be cracking down on (not that there's much chance of that!).

Problem is that KYC is tied in with money-laundering and tax avoidance. So the Government is concerned with enforcing KYC and would prefer not to draw attention to any problems that its rules or an unreasonable interpretation of them might create - as consumers we have to do that ourselves.

I fully agree. I still think, however, that the UKGC does not do nearly enough to help players who are unfairly treated by a small minority of its licence holders. Being concerned about money laundering, tax evasion, problem and underage gambling is fine, but part of their 'mission statement' is also to ensure 'that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way' and in my view this is one area where they could do better.

These checks are not done before because most people lose.
So, the bookmaker is not bothered where the funds have generated from and also the Government isn't really to bothered as they are getting paid taxes.
The issue is when you try to withdraw winnings.

Sounds as if they've finally caved in and decided to pay up (as Quincunx thought they would), which is good news. As for them closing your account, I would say good riddance to them and take your custom elsewhere. At least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that 188Bet will never see another penny of the money you won from them.

Hi zanzan44, It is much better if you have made this concern in a new thread so it will not mixed with other topic unrelated to the issue. I actually search the username 'Latvia' but see no pending request or anything. Let us take a deeper look about this. Make sure to log-in first before accessing the complaint form. Please let us know if you'll still failed to submit the form even if you're already signed-in.

It will be very interesting to see what they have to say for themselves and how they try to justify going back on their previous assurance that you were now clear to withdraw your funds. In my view this smacks of desperation on their part.

I just had a problem with withdrawing with 188bet and I just read your post. I’ve seen that u stopped with the update at 2017. May I know what happened in the end? I’m just a rookie and you seem to know what you’re doing , I am so confused ..
