It's been a while for the 2023 Cy Young winner...

2023 - Cy Young

2024 - missed 1st 3 mo. with elbow issues. Came back in July, pitched 22 starts and finished the season losing game 5 of WS.

2025 Tommy John surgery in March 2025

This is nice timing on the return with Max Fried on IR with elbow issues since last week.

Is he gonna be the same? That's a long day of no game.

Historical data on pitchers returning from Tommy John surgery says they usually recover their ball speed and spin quickly but their control is not usually good that 1st post-surgery year. On average it takes until the 2nd year to get their control back (its a mental thing - fear of reinjury, confidence building time, etc...).

But, Gerritt Cole seems like strange character though (mentally) so he might outperform the "average" pitcher.

Exciting to know later.

Looks like Judge is also very excited for his comeback.

Great write up. Agree with this analysis.
