Malted, I've been looking for houses up by you but out in the country. I don't want to live in the city anymore.

I found a nice one here on 4 1/2 acres on the side of a hill so it has great views and the neighbors aren't very close.

It's a little more than I want to pay but hopefully I can find something smaller in the same area on the same size of land.

👍🍺

Nice! A 2,400 sq. ft. house on 4.5 acres?!?! You’re livin’ the American Dream, my friend! Funny, it took me a minute to get used to the quiet - and I’m not just talking just @$$hole neighbors or traffic, either. I’m talking no sirens, police helicopters, construction noise, and everything else that is city ‘noise pollution’ - and you’re even more remote than me! Also, even moreso for you, you’ll have to get used to avoiding hitting wildlife with your car. I’ve almost hit like 10 different animals since we moved up here. Dusk-To-Night and Pre-Dawn-Until-Dawn are when you really need to keep your head on a swivel…..

Good Luck! Keep us posted!

Yeah, this one was already bought and it's too big for me. I'm just looking in this same area with a similar lot size. I have to sell my house first. I'll probably put it on the market this summer.

It's close to trails too. I hope to buy a side-by-side and take it up on the trails in the mountains.

Make sure it's big enough for all your BMR friends to visit QL. (y)

Wife is down today in Dewey/Humboldt and texted me this picture. I guess these are “Javelina”? Never heard of these before, but I guess they’re some kind of wild boar/hybrid running around?!?!

You definitely don’t want to hit one of these with your car…..

That’s what’s going to happen if I hit one of these things. But, they look sinewy and skinny, and kind of like a 60-pound rat on steroids. Might just leave the meat production to the professionals…..
Yeah, they're not going to be tender like ham.

I thought they wouldn't be worth eating but here's what Google AI says:

Javelina meat is considered good and edible, often described as a lean, mild pork-like meat that excels in slow-cooked dishes like tacos, chili, or sausage. Proper field care, specifically removing the scent gland on the back immediately, is crucial to prevent a "gamey" or "musky" taste.
Key details regarding javelina meat:
  • Flavor and Texture: It is a very lean, light-colored meat. It is often compared to pork and is not overly gamey if handled correctly.
  • Preparation: Because it is very lean, it is best prepared using slow-cooking methods (crockpot, smoker) and often benefits from added fat, such as lard, to prevent drying out. It is commonly used for chorizo, sausage, and shredded meat dishes.
  • Handling: Immediately remove the musk gland located on the lower back to prevent contaminating the meat.
  • Age Matters: Younger, smaller javelina generally taste better than older, larger ones.
For the best flavor, many hunters recommend soaking the meat in an ice bath or brine before cooking.

Can’t do this in California (legally, anyways). My buddy & I went out shooting, brought the wives, I made turkey/salami/provolone ‘pinwheels’ & a cooler of beer. Yeah, that’s an AR-15. My buddy owns like 30 guns - We own one gun, it’s that Smith & Wesson cop issue black .38 we “inherited” from my Mother-In-Law…..

F#CKIN’ FUN!!!!!
