WNBA New York Liberty v Connecticut Sun
Table of Contents

The WNBA season continues, and we have plenty of exciting action on the docket for this Tuesday, August 5th. We have five games, including the top teams in the league.

Let’s take a look at two of these exciting matchups to find winning WNBA picks.

Dallas Wings vs. New York Liberty

Tuesday, August 05, 2025 – 07:00 PM EDT at Barclays Center

Liberty Keep Rolling at Home

Amidst all the excitement this season there has been plenty of surprises as well. Yet no one is surprised by the play of the New York Liberty. The Liberty are the defending WNBA champions and are currently second in the league with an 18-10 record.

The Liberty are coming off a two game split against the Connecticut Sun. The Liberty were streaky during the month of July. After running off a five-game win streak, the Liberty dropped four in a row before defeating the Sun on Sunday

This will be a tough matchup for the Dallas Wings because the Liberty have been fantastic at home. The Liberty are 12-3 on their home court. The Dallas Wings are only 3-11 on the road.

Although they have two of the most exciting, young players in the league, the Dallas Wings do not have the depth to compete at the top level of the WNBA this season. The Dallas Wings have a promising future, yet this season they are only 8-21 and in 11th place in the league.

Wings Lean on Bueckers and Ogunbowale

However, the Wings do feature Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale. Bueckers leads the team, averaging 18.5 points per game, and Ogunbowale averages 15.7 points per game. Ogunbowale is also an excellent defender.

The Wings will continue to develop this young talent this season and then add more athleticism around them to try to compete next season.

When looking at the point differential for these teams, it’s going to be huge in favor of the New York Liberty at top sportsbooks. The Liberty are +5.8 this season while the Dallas Wings are -4.5. So our average margin of victory when you combine both teams will be more than 10 points. This makes sense when you look at the line of 9.5.

So if we are to assume that the New York Liberty are going to win (and I think that’s a fairly safe assumption due to their dominance at home), let’s take a look at the margin of victory and their home wins.

Three of the five wins were by double digits and one of them landed exactly on 9. So when the Liberty win they do like to blow their opponents out.

We are going to take the New York Liberty in this matchup and expect them to win by 10 points or more. The Liberty are simply too good at home. Bet the New York Liberty -9.5.

New York Liberty -9.5 (-110)

Minnesota Lynx vs. Seattle Storm

Tuesday, August 05, 2025 – 10:00 PM EDT at Climate Pledge Arena

Lynx Look to Stay Hot

The Minnesota Lynx take the league’s best record to Seattle to take on the Storm. The Storm are currently in the middle of the standings, with a 16-13 record in 5th place.

The Lynx are the class of the league at 24-5. The Storm are still looking for a victory on the current homestand after falling to the Sparks and the Fever over the weekend. Now they’ll face an even tougher task against the league’s top team.

The  Minnesota Lynx come into this game as winners of four of their last five and absolutely crushed the Las Vegas Aces 111-58 on Saturday. The margin of victory was a WNBA record with a 53 point road win. As well as setting the record for the largest margin of victory on the road, the Minnesota Lynx also set a team record by making 17 3-pointers with 27 attempts.

The Lynx are led by MVP candidate Napheesa Collier, however Collier did roll her ankle in the game against the Aces. The Lynx will hope to have Collier in the lineup tonight. However, a quick look at the current line shows that the sportsbooks do not expect Collier to play.

Superstar Subtraction: One Game Wonder Angle

This is something that I like to use in the NBA and will use it in the WNBA as well. It’s called Superstar Subtraction. The idea is the first game after a star player misses to bet the team missing their star player. Why? Because in the first game without the star, the other players will be excited for the increased opportunities, especially on the offensive end, and that leads to a more cohesive performance.

However, the effects of this are usually short-lived, and I only use it for the very first game after an injury. After a while, the lack of depth and talent will catch up to a team. But in the first game, Superstar Subtraction is the way to go.

We will use Superstar Subtraction tonight and even though the Lynx will most likely miss the MVP of the league, they will still get the win against the struggling Seattle Storm. Take the Minnesota Lynx.

Minnesota Lynx +2.5 (-110)
