Sorry, Tina Charles. Step aside, Sylvia Fowles. There’s a new Chair of the Boards: Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese set the WNBA record last year with 13.12 rebounds per game, snapping Fowles’s record of 11.88 from the 2018 regular season. It’s a record that could stand for quite a while – unless Reese breaks it herself.

It could happen. But maybe Reese’s per-game rebounding in 2024 was an outlier; heading into Saturday’s tilt with the Phoenix Mercury, Reese has gathered 11.73 boards on average. While that would still put her fifth all-time over the course of the 2025 campaign, it’s far short of public expectation, which is why we’re happy to recommend the Under for Reese’s rebounds while we wait at the top-rated sportsbooks for her props to hit the WNBA odds board for this matinee affair.

Phoenix Mercury vs. Chicago Sky

Saturday, June 21, 2025 – 01:00 PM EDT at Wintrust Arena

Why Do You Hate Angel Reese?

Now hold on a sec. We’re not putting the Under in our basketball picks out of spite – although it’s possible others will. There’s certainly no room for that nonsense here at the ranch.

This is more about the outsized demands of the betting public. According to the full-season numbers from Vegas, Reese is looking at a total of 13.5 rebounds per game, albeit with the Under favored slightly at –125. That’s even higher than her record-setting 2024 performance.

Again, it could happen. Reese is a preternaturally gifted athlete, and still has some upside at age 23; last Sunday, she became the second-youngest WNBA player with a triple-double, posting 11 points, 13 boards and 11 assists in Chicago’s 78-66 win over the Connecticut Sun (–2 at home). Reese’s posted total for rebounds that day: 10.5, with the Over at –130.

Doing the same against Phoenix should be considerably more difficult. Yet Reese did just that on May 27, scooping up 15 boards to help the Sky (+7.5 away) cash in despite losing 94-89. That put Reese above 500 career rebounds early in her sophomore campaign – and well on her way of breaking Charles’s league record of 4,077.

So Why Bet the Under?

Because expectations have been set so high. Reese has yet to match that 15 rebounds from May 27; her numbers since then are 9, 9, 12, 11, 9, 13 and 10, peaking with her performance against the last-place Sun (2-10 SU, 5-7 ATS).

As for the Mercury (10-4 SU, 8-6 ATS), they’ve upped their game since their previous encounter with Chicago. Getting former Sky standout Kahleah Copper back on the wing last Sunday makes Phoenix even more dangerous – and they didn’t even need her to beat the defending champion New York Liberty (–11.5 at home) 89-81 this past Thursday, with Copper getting a maintenance day as she comes back from her left knee injury.

While we’re at it, let’s work in some of that tasty 3-point regression. Chicago remains second from the bottom at 28.7% from downtown, which has given Reese ample opportunity to grab those boards, however volatile they might be coming off those longer attempts. More of those treys are likely to find the bottom of the net moving forward, evading Reese’s grasp in the process.

The Pick

One last thing to consider before hitting up Saturday’s WNBA betting lines: Reese played a season-high 36:21 against Connecticut, and another 33:39 against Phoenix – her third-highest workload in 11 games thus far. Reese’s average floor time in 2025 is just over 30 minutes.

Bet accordingly, and may the sphere be with you.
