The Genesis Invitational 2025
February 13 – 16, 2025
This year the Genesis Invitational has been hastily rearranged after the fires of the Los Angeles area left the Riviera Country Club unplayable.
That’s no loss for golf fans as the event moves to Torrey Pines which only three weeks ago hosted the Farmers Insurance Open and is another recognized major venue and championship test in keeping with the Riviera Country Club.
No doubt course form will play strongly this week, given how demanding Torrey Pines can be!
Course Stats
- Torrey Pines, South Course
- La Jolla, California
- Par 72, 7765 yards
- In the main, this week’s test requires the golfer to be long and straight off the tee to give them the best opportunity to hit the greens in regulation.
- The greens are Poa Annua and the course has a parkland terrain despite being set on the coast and susceptible to the elements from the Pacific Ocean.
- The long-range weather forecast looks mixed with the difficult mix of wind and rain on Thursday and Sunday.
Can Woodland complete the Cinderella Story?
It’s been just over a year since Woodland had a brain lesion removed after ending the 2023 season feeling under the weather with serious neurological symptoms that were affecting many aspects of his life.
It’s fair to say, that the forty-year-old from Kansas is now back to the form that saw him land a major championship in 2019, the US Open down the coast at Pebble Beach.
In fact, historically his ball striking tee to green which was always his strength is already back to elite level this season ranking in the top 30 of most stats and 6th in Total Driving.
There is nowhere that exposes weakness in that area of your game than Torrey Pines and an above average week on the greens would see Woodland contend for a fifth PGA Tour title this week.
I recommend taking Gary Woodland as an outright Long shot this week along with a healthy bet on the top 20 finish that his consistent ball striking will supply.

Will Torrey be the tonic for Aberg?
Three weeks ago, at the Farmers Insurance Open, Ludvig Aberg started the week with a round of 63 to take the first-round lead and appear in imperious form.
The twenty-five-year-old Swede fell away over the weekend to finish well down the field but news emerged he had been suffering from flu-like symptoms.
The condition escalated after the event so much so that he needed to withdraw from the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the week following.
With time to recover since Aberg could find four rounds here is the perfect re-introduction to professional golf. The unique demands of Torrey Pines play into Aberg’s strength of being long and accurate off the tee, as he showed not only in that opening round but also here last year when he was 9th on debut.
I think Ludvig Aberg’s price of (+2000) with our best sportsbook Bovada is worth taking at Genesis Invitational this week.
