Course Notes
- Par 70, 7237 yards
- Designer – Tom Doak 2008
- Back nine is set on open dunes, while the opening nine is sculptured through forest land.
- A real eclectic test of a golfer’s skills with a notable mix of long and short holes that require the complete skillset and range of clubs.
- The weather is often a concern in Scotland, but happily, this week’s forecast looks settled with a moderate breeze on all four days.
Genesis Scottish Open Recent Winners
Follow Fitz on Familiar Shores
After a yearlong slump that saw the Englishman go a full twelve months without a top 10 finish, there has been an eye-catching improvement in the form of the 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick.
The thirty-year-old from Sheffield looks likely to have his improved form enhanced further by his return to familiar shores. The Renaissance is a track he has gotten to know well in recent years, with a couple of top 10 finishes to illustrate his fondness. Indeed, 2021 saw him lose a sudden-death play-off to Min Woo Lee.
The Rennaissance is a peculiar modern course set on the East Scottish Coast, not a classical links for all 18 holes, which likely suits Fitzpatrick perfectly given that the opening nine holes play more like the atypical American track.
Certainly, Fitzpatrick is tailor-made for American target golf, which requires to the inch perfection in yardage and club selection. Don’t be fooled, though, as Matt Fitzpatrick has links pedigree to burn, particularly with his last tournament win in the fall of 2023 at Dunhill Links. That said, this track looks like the perfect combination for the Englishman as he trends back into his best form.
Given Fitzpatrick’s previous form at the Renaissance club and current form trending in a very positive direction for the first time in over a year, we suggest you use BetOnline’s price of (+4000) along with a meatier stake on a top 10 finish.

Harman Has the Mix of Skills Needed
As you can see from our course notes, this week’s test is rather an eclectic one with an American style opening nine holes followed by a more traditional links style back nine.
One player that I expect to be at ease with the demands is the diminutive Georgia resident, Brian Harman. Harman’s links golf credentials were solidly stamped at the Open of 2023 when he walloped the field by six strokes at Royal Liverpool.
Next, if we discuss your atypical American test, Harman’s last start at the Travelers Championship, he finished 8th, landing readers and followers of this column a winner at (+600), which ticks both boxes of current and American form.
Harman unsurprisingly has solid course form here with 21st and 12th the last two years, so we have a solid type of golfer who will compete this week on all the required levels. And let’s not forget it was only a couple of months ago that Harman won the Valero Texas Open.
Brian Harman’s Picks:
- Brian Harman to Win Scottish Open (+9000) at BetOnline
- Brian Harman to Finish Top 10 (+900) at BetOnline
