As you prepare your knowledge for the upcoming college football season, you become familiar with the top teams and the best quarterbacks.

However, who are those other signal callers that could elevate their teams and make them a potential good bet for college football betting win totals?

Here are three proven quarterbacks that can elevate their team to go – Over – for season win totals Bovada (visit our Bovada Review).

Luke Altmyer – Illinois

  • Win Total O/U 7.5

One of the biggest surprises in the Big Ten a year ago was the Fighting Illini, who were 10-3 on the season and included a win over South Carolina in the Citrus Bowl. The leader for Illinois was QB Luke Altmyer, who was fifth in passing TDs in the Big Ten and first with the fewest interceptions.

Illinois brought back nine starters on offense, including Altmyer, who’s a senior and has seven defensive starters returning.

A big plus for Altmyer is having Bret Bielma as the head coach and the same offensive coordinator in Barry Lunney Jr., which adds to the continuity.

Altmyer will have to work with a few new receivers, plus a good complement of other pass catchers, which should not derail him coming into the season.

Winning eight or nine regular-season games is not out of the question, just catching Ohio State among the top four projected finishers in the Big Ten. Look for the Fighting Illini to have another stellar campaign in Champaign.

Sam Leavitt – Arizona State

  • Win Total O/U 8.5

This writer lives in the – Valley of the Sun – in the Phoenix area, and when Kenny Dillingham was hired, his first press conference was astonishing. He sounded like someone who could turn around a dormant program or be kicked to the curb with too much bravado.

It turns out the former was true, as in his second year, Dillingham moved to a new conference (Big 12) and won the whole thing with Arizona State earning an automatic bid in the new playoff system.

Dillingham brought in a redshirt freshman QB in Sam Leavitt, and all he did was lead the Sun Devils to their first outright conference title since 1996.

There was nothing fluky about ASU with a balanced offense and a defense that made stops when it needed to.

Leavitt returns without his security blanket in RB Cam Skattebo and his favorite receiver (Tyson). The offensive line has four starters returning, with the receiver room far deeper than a year ago.

Arizona State is among the teams picked to reach the title game again, which would probably mean having at least nine triumphs. Games at Baylor, Utah, and Kansas State will be big challenges, but with the right coach and quarterback, the Sun Devils will again be a devil of a team to knock off.

Kevin Jennings – SMU

  • Win Total O/U 8.5

When SMU joined the ACC last year, there were two schools of thought. The Mustangs were talented at several positions and could compete in their new conference, but would likely wear down later in the season.

Or, because they played in the American Conference, their talent was better than most assumed. While there would be an adjustment, it was not as big as many surmised, giving the Mustangs a chance to make an immediate impact.

SMU made an impact and then some in posting an 11-1 season (8-0 in ACC) and pushed Clemson to the limit in the championship contest, coming up just short of taking the conference while earning a first-ever playoff bid.

Coach Rhett Lashlee’s club was vastly underrated. QB Kevin Jennings was a legitimate dual-threat with over 3,600 yards of offense.

The Ponies reaching 11 wins again seems like a stretch with just two defensive starters back; however, Lashlee worked the portal well. Jennings knows the offense and is electric in off-schedule plays. Look for SMU to have another fine season at 9-3 and a good bowl game.
