Tampa Bay came through to win game 1 of the series with a 2-1 win, as they were outshot 27 to 28 and had four less power play minutes. The Canes will look to even things out on home ice tonight or they face going to Tampa down 2-0.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Tuesday, June 01, 2021 – 07:30 PM EDT at PNC Arena
Preview
The Lightning came through in game 1 win a win on the Hurricanes ice, this will give them a slight advantage as they will head back to Tampa at the very least 1-1 on the series, but all going well they could hold a 2-0 lead. They were outshot and slightly outplayed in game 1 and still managed to come away with the win, this is why they are reigning Stanley Cup Champions.
Star goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 37 shots in game 1 and now has a post season record of 5-2 with 2.38 goals against record. Vasilevskiy has been solid against this Hurricanes team throughout his career with a 10-3-1 overall record. The Lightning also manged to capitalize on their superior power play as they scored a goal from just 1 of their 3, and although the Hurricanes scored on their power play also, they had an extra two in the game compared to the Lightning. Tampa Bay now have the 2nd best post season powerplay behind the Colorado Avalanche.
The Hurricanes are a tough team who like to control the puck in games and dominate the faceoffs, they have a sensational home record this season, winning 20 of their 28 games played and you would have to fancy they tie this series up tonight.

Prediction
The Hurricanes played well in game 1, sometimes the drop of the puck just doesn’t go your way. Their superb home record is hard to ignore and overall they have only lost 4 games at home in regulation this season. The Hurricanes have won 3 of their 5 home games against the Lightning and have not lost two games in a row on home ice to the Lightning in over 7 years, albeit a stat that’s relatively meaningless, it shows how hard the Hurricanes bounce back from defeat.
The Canes are also ranked 1st in shots per game this post season with a massive 41.7. This does bode well for a bet on the Lightnings goaltender over so many saves, although there is no save line up yet, we think it should be in around 29.5 / 30.5 if so, we would advise taking the save total over.
Take the Hurricanes to bounce back and tie it up here, they will be playing as hard as they can to assert their dominance at home and realistically will hope to tie the two games in Tampa and head back to Carolina with the series tied at 2-2. Although they would love to go 3-0 in their net three games, its hard to see that right now against such a strong Lightning team and goaltender.
