It was bound to happen and finally did, we lost our first game of the season on this article, leaving us at 11-1. No tears here, if we can match that for the next four weeks, we will be more than pleased for you. For this week’s trio of later-in-the-week action, we seek value based on situational and NFL odds that have shifted. We feel this gives us an edge for our NFL picks and you can see if you agree or disagree.
While some people like to buy points for certain situations, this writer/handicapper likes to handle that organically and seek the best value by keeping more of his money. Not saying one is better than another, just a preference.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Carolina Panthers
Sunday, October 10, 2021 – 1:00 PM EDT at Bank of America Stadium
After holding their first three foes to 132 total yards on the ground, Carolina was torched for 245 by a smoking-hot Dallas offense. That’s not going to sit well with Panthers coach Matt Ruhle and his team will be fully focused on stopping the Eagles’ No. 10 rushing offense.
Philly has allowed more than 40 points in back-to-back games and while we don’t expect that to continue, Carolina ball-chucker Sam Darnold should find plenty of throwing lanes and places to scamper against the Eagles, just as he has all season.
For most of the week, Carolina was sitting at -4 for this NFC conflict, but on Thursday, the ‘Cats slid to -3 at the sportsbooks, which we felt added value to back them. Realizing the Eagles are off a 42-30 loss to Kansas City and knowing they are a putrid 1-11 ATS after a double-digit defeat, this was too good to pass up.

Chicago Bears vs. La Vegas Raiders
Sunday, October 10, 2021 - 4:05 PM EDT at Allegiant Stadium
The Raiders are thinking, whatever happened in SoFi Stadium, stays in SoFi, after they suffered their first loss of the new season. Las Vegas was flummoxed by the Chargers’ defense for the first two quarters and though they got within a touchdown, the hole was too deep to recover.
Back home, Jon Gruden’s guys will look to improve on their 2-0 home record before their adoring fans. Included with those in black and silver will be Chicago Bears fans, making the journey to Sin City.
The opening line on this nonconference clash was the Raiders at -7 and for reasons not completely evident, that has dipped to -5.5. Granted, Derek Carr and fellas have won twice in overtime just west of The Strip and for years this franchise has been a notoriously poor home favorite.
Yet, in looking at Chicago, they are starting a rookie QB with a fairly anemic-looking offense and they will be without their best offensive weapon in RB David Montgomery. With the Bears 19-40 ATS in road games vs. teams scoring 24 or more points a contest, we like our chances.

New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys
Sunday, October 10, 2021 - 4:25 PM EDT at AT&T Stadium
Dallas is 3-1 and 4-0 ATS and for the first time in a few years and there are real reasons to be enthusiastic about Jerry Jones’ squad. Dak Prescott is playing incredibly well, he’s got more tools than the old Sears toolbox and the defense, while sometimes shaky (26th in total defense), they have generated 10 turnovers.
The Cowboys are facing one of their main rivals, the New York Giants. The G-Men are just 1-3, however, they were in a position to defeat both Washington and Atlanta and failed to do so. Last week, New York learned a valuable lesson, in putting away New Orleans on the road in OT. That is part of the growing process and we can see QB Daniel Jones improving, who no longer is fumbling his car keys and the football.
We wish we actually understood why this is, but sometimes you just have to accept circumstances. The Giants are 8-1 ATS as a road underdog and they have covered eight straight against the NFC. This is a classic – buy low, sell high – NFL game spot, which places on Big Blue.
