College Football Picks Week 13 At-a-Glance
This article will center on my expert college football predictions for Week 13. I will discuss the best wagers for Nebraska vs. Penn State and Cal vs. Stanford.
Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Penn State Nittany Lions (-9.5)
This game is a situational handicapper’s dream because it is the final home game of the season, also known as Senior Night, for Penn State.
Annually, the Nittany Lions play with extra motivation and dominate their opponent in this situation. Last year, for example, Penn State on Senior Night beat Maryland 44-7. Two Senior Nights ago, Penn State beat Rutgers 27-6. The list continues.
I get that Penn State has had a rough season, but let’s not forget that the Nittany Lions were ranked number two. They still have an elite roster.
Two weeks ago, they nearly upset the number two Hoosiers. Last week, they won at Michigan State by 18 points.
Now they get to face a Nebraska team whose starting quarterback is hurt. Nebraska’s road struggles include an 18-point loss at Minnesota with that same starting quarterback. On the road, the Cornhuskers do not bring the same defensive intensity as they do at home.
Penn State’s motivational edge will reflect itself in its rush attack that will exploit Nebraska’s 94th-ranked defense, more generally in its scoring prowess, and ultimately in the final score. For the above reasons, bet on Penn State -9.5.
California Golden Bears vs. Stanford Cardinal (+3)
Cal vs. Stanford is a historic Bay Area rivalry game that is always worth watching.
This matchup features two deficient offenses. The Cal offense’s major weakness is its rush attack. The Golden Bears are one of two teams to be averaging fewer than 70 YPC. They reached 23 points in regulation in their last game because their quarterback performed very well.
Their quarterback, however, is characteristically inconsistent. As evident in his game-by-game passer rating, he always flops after a good performance.
Stanford’s defense is also going to play with great inspiration because this rivalry game provides them with the opportunity to give meaning to their otherwise awful season. Expect Stanford’s defense to build off its last game, in which it held North Carolina to 20 points.
The Cardinal has turned to a freshman quarterback who, despite constituting an element of surprise for the opposing defense and exploiting the lack of game footage on him by being hot for multiple phases of the game, failed to help his team score more than 15 points.
His inexperience will provide a further detriment in this tremendously important rivalry affair. For the above reasons, wager on the Under 49.5.
