Last week, there were many games between top-level teams and bottom dwellers. But now it’s Week 4, and there are many more conference games to get excited about.
There are three games this weekend between top-25 opponents, and each game is a conference game. We’re kind of in the thick of the season now. This is where the drama thickens!
Therefore, let’s take a look at the college football odds for Week 4. Let’s get after it!
Can We Stay Hot With This Week’s Picks?
Last week wasn’t so bad! We finished 3-0, after Tennessee covered +4.5, Miami covered -16.5, and Texas A&M covered +6.5.
After a 3-0 sweep last week, let’s see what I’ve got in store for this week.
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Utah Utes (-3.5)
The Texas Tech Red Raiders have looked outstanding to start the season. They’re 3-0 with wins against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Kent State, and Oregon State. This will be Texas Tech’s first road game of the season, but they’ve also scored at least 45 points in every game this year.
They’ll battle a Utah Utes team that defeated UCLA, Cal Poly, and Wyoming. They’ve already won two road games, including at UCLA, but will now be home in this first Big 12 matchup.
Beheren Morton has been sharp, throwing 11 touchdowns with a QBR of 81.2 and 923 yards passing through three games.
Utah’s defense has been solid, but its offense leans heavily on Devon Dampier, which could be tested against a deeper Big 12 opponent.
On paper, Texas Tech has looked better defensively and currently has the better passer. The Utes opened as 4-point favorites at Bovada, and you may want to bet them before the odds change. If you want to take a risk, bet on the moneyline.
Tulane Green Wave vs. Ole Miss Rebels (-12.5)
The Tulane Green Wave appears to be the best non-Power 4 team in the nation. A win against Ole Miss would put them in a very good position to make the College Football Playoff. However, Tulane is a 12.5-point underdog. It’s not very likely that Tulane wins. However, it’s very possible that Tulane’s offense does enough to stay in this game.
Tulane most recently scored 34 points against Duke and defeated Northwestern, 23-3, to start the season. Those are two solid wins against Power-4 opponents that have relatively good defenses.
No defense will be able to stop Lane Kiffin’s Rebels, but as long as Jake Retzlaff continues to throw without making mistakes, Tulane should be able to stick around in this game.
The total is at 60.5, and you may want to consider the over in this game.
Michigan Wolverines vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers (+3)
Don’t let last week’s Michigan win over Central Michigan fool you.
The Wolverines are not an elite football team, losing 24-13 to Oklahoma on the road the week prior and allowing New Mexico 17 points in a 34-17 win. Michigan didn’t look promising in Weeks 1 and 2, and just unloaded on Central Michigan, which proves absolutely nothing.
That said, Nebraska earned a Week 1 win over Cincinnati and has allowed just seven points in its last two games against Akron and Houston Christian.
Michigan’s defense should be able to stop the run against Nebraska. Meanwhile, the Wolverines aren’t getting elite quarterback play from freshman Bryce Underwood. He’s completed only 46 of 80 passes, despite playing against two non-Power-4 schools this season.
Michigan’s game plan will be to run the football. They’ll be effective, but also, time will tick and drives will last long.
Michigan opened as a 1.5-point favorite, but you may want to take a look at the under here.
